LMMS for dummies, please

Anything that doesn't fit into other topics goes here!
Hi, I am a teacher that likes to create her own stuff for my kids to sing. I have composed some very simple tunes, and recorded vocals, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the stuff into LMMS! Could some kind hearted expert pelase create a tutorial for us dummies on how to find, download, install and USE the soundfonts needed to import MIDIs?

I am desperate! I have looked all over and only find videos that assume I know a lot about programming or about music, or the program itself.

A tutorial (or simple instructions) for an idiot like myself would be very appreciated!

P.S. I have already downloaded Sforzando, and a few others but literally cannot figure out where to go from there

THANKS!

Soundfont resources

Freepats is a project dedicated to creating a free and open set of instrument patches, in any format, that can be used with softsynths

GeneralUser GS is a GM and GS compatible SoundFont bank for composing or playing MIDI files.

Another way is to import a .wav file into lmms, through the audio file processor.
I don't know much about it myself, but well, there's MIDI and then there is MIDI... It lets devices talk to each other without blowing up, but beyond that the thing is very loosely standardised.

So, for a simple and straightforward answer, a lot depends on where exactly the original midi file comes from. If it's your own keyboard/synth, the exact make and model is important, if it's some other software, there may be some things you can/need to do on that end,

Hi, Welcome to the forum kekedaniels! Here are all our important links:

-And a few rules for Avatars, signatures, posting and using the right sub-forum :)

I moved your thread. Tutorials is for teaCHING :) Not an issue, so dont worry.
Recorded sound like Vocals need to be in the form of either wave, or ogg-forbis. LMMS cant handle mp3.
When you have the right formate, you have the option of loading into a Sample-track or an AudiofileProcesser.
You can find info on both in our wiki:
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=AudioFileProcessor
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Wo ... th_Samples
Your notes need to be in midi-note formate, meaning that is you have used a program like Anvil-studio, you can import the midi-file directly.
install and USE the soundfonts needed to import MIDIs?
Thats a common miss subsumption.
SF (we use SF2 in LMMS) is not meant for importing MIDI. SFs are utilizing a feature in your hw, 'the midi-table' -You can dl a special midi-instrument, taht can use every item on you midi-table, that SF is named general-user
http://www.schristiancollins.com/generaluser.php
But!
You can use any instrument, including a long list of advanced VSTs with midi-notes, in LMMS!

But you can ofcause also compose directly in LMMS.
Perhaps my LMMS rookie-guide can interest you? Link in signature.
The whole channel with almost 100 videos, are dedicated to teaching lmms, trick tips and normal usage. You are also most welcome to ask for a tutorial in something specific

You chose LMMS. That's proof right there that you aren't an idiot. ;)

Anyway, I'd simply download the Soundfonts like others have already said, and experiment with LMMS to find all the features that are relevant to you.

I am a teacher and I would like to teach my kids to sing. Any videos or tutorials/books would be good too. I'm currently using the essay service curriculum for songwriting. But I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
Hello,

I can share a pdf copy of LMMS: A Complete Guide to Dance Music Production Beginner's Guide by David Earl. I used it for my classroom (I teach middle school students).
