lmms 1.2.0 ZynAddSubFx GUI crashes back to Login of UBUNTU

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hello, I am using

lmms-1.2.0-linux-x86_64.AppImage
on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 Bit.

If I add ZynAddSubFx to the Song-Editor, open it and click on "Show GUI" something really strange happens. The OS instantly crashes and kicks me back to the Login Screen of UBUNTU! How is this even possible and why is this happening? :(

Any suggestions?
Hello

Afair there may be a checkbox about vst settings to uncheck but I dont remember what one it is...maybe about vstsync?

Hello,
Hi, Welcome to the Forum benemoto !
Here are all important links:

-A few rules and useful forum instructions
ZynAddSubFx "Show GUI" crashes back to the Login Screen of UBUNTU!
Almost similar to a BSOD -That should not happen, and its the first time i hear about it..
The synch setting mentioned above is In
Edit| Settings| Misc : where we advise to disable 'Sync VST plugins to host playback'
..But i seriously doubt that that would hard-crash in that way...
Try it
Let us know the outcome :)
Thank you for your quick responses and warm welcome. I tried to enable/disable the 'Sync VST plugins to host playback' option, but the problem remains.

I started the app via terminal the last messages in the terminal before the crash are the following:

Starting Audio: NULL
QtXMLWrapper::loadXMLfile(): empty data
QtXMLWrapper::loadXMLfile(): empty data
Audio Started
Starting MIDI: NULL
MIDI Started

And than it crashes/throws back to login.
Maybe it has something to do with this? https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/issues/703 --> Mac Issue but same problem...

Btw. these songs I created with your great software: https://soundcloud.com/ijont
Are you sure you're ubuntu installation is oke ?

Linux and crashing that is weird,

How much ram do you have ?
I dont know linux, but i think that

Code: Select all

Starting Audio: NULL
QtXMLWrapper::loadXMLfile(): empty data
QtXMLWrapper::loadXMLfile(): empty data
Audio Started
Starting MIDI: NULL
MIDI Started
Look suspicious - It looks like several components are missing

Are those suppose to be empty / NULL ..
I have 8MB Ram and my Ubuntu runs perfectly. An installed Version of LMMS Version 1.0.0 and ZynaddsubFX runs perfectly. Only the new version 1.2.0 behaves as described above.

musikbear seems to be right. but I have no idea which libs are missing. the bundle file should come with all the necessary libs and yes, it is very uncommon that linux crashes that way. Even impossible.

It sounds like this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1449167
It've seen it reported in more than one place and it hasn't been fixed. I'm on LinuxMint 19.3 and get it too.
We do have at least one issue on our issue tracker (can't find it right now) but since the bug isn't on our side it's not much we can do.
Here is the most relevant lmms issue: https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/issues/2701
Just tested this on my other computer and it's indeed fixed in LinuxMint-18.3 which uses Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial) repos.
Upgrade your OS is unfortunately the way to fix this. Unfortunately Ubuntu is very reluctant to patch bugs in their stable releases so this will not be fixed on their side.
