Changing the note on the piano roll in the Instrument editor

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
So I just got LMMS and I'm figuring out how to use it. I wanted to change the the note of the kicker but I don't know how. I assumed the piano keys at the bottom and the small square directly above it would help, but when i move the small square to another note it doesn't make a difference. After some research and looking at the wiki page for it, the small square is supposed to appear green, but mine is grey and clicking on it doesn't work.

You are correct, but kicker is a special instrument
It has a two different modes
1) (Default) Note-independent -only depending on internal settings
2) Note-dependent Depending on BOTH internal settings AND note pressed/ played
To enter state-2, you need to turn the dial for
START ao END -and set the diodes ON:

You will find that note.independent percussion-instruments are quite common. Kicker is more versatile than most other percussion, because it can do both!

Btw..The 'small square' you mentioned, we call Base-note
Here you can read more about how to use that

-And here is a video, that does tricks with it:

It doesn't work for me :/

The bar on top of the keyboard didn't even turn green after I imitated the settings of your screenshot

I wanted to change the the note of the kicker
But that is not a 'normal' instrument, and that is why you ran into this issue.
Kicker is default only making one output on all keys. That is very common for percussion instruments!
But Kicker has setting that will allow it to use pitch
I made tut for 808 percussion some weeks ago, i suspect you want to do a similar thing?
