Which VST is crashing to you?
I have no experience with that, but LMMS should see it as any other MIDI input.
So open an instrument, go to the MIDI tab, and chose it as midi input.

Does VPMK work with other programs?
LMMS does so when the audio driver you set was not available.
Does it do it with all the audio devices? Try them all until you find the right one.
If none is available, maybe you can try installing Jack.

It's an interesting genre. I suggest to use compression, instead of having the instrument go over the maximum volume!

That would make the noises a bit more smooth.
