I think you need to install wine and maybe compile LMMS yourself.

I am however a linux user, and know little to nothing about macs.

If that works you should download the windows vst.

I have the same issue.
Some Linux users can be asses, I usual just ignore them.
Maybe switch to openSUSE?

Download it, change the rights so it becomes executable, then double click the file to start LMMS. :)
