You can however use fl-studio free version and resample a wavefile, this should then be used in lmms. But no native method exists in lmms. .. (yet?

yes, that is very easy.
Project | import <choose file>
Default the individual instruments will be empty, but in the setup you can link to a default soundfond that will populate all the instruments when a midi is imported.
