You could try.

Uninstall lmms, after you backed upped anything you don't wanna loose.
Then delete all lmms folders if any are left.
Run cccleaner.

Reinstall lmms.

Well, I am on Linux and I can tell you it works over there, but it should work on windows and mac too. Are you trying the right settings? I have on Linux the same "problem" as you describe, if lmms can't use the setting I select. then it will ignore me. I have used lmms on windows 7 and XP...

On openSUSE I just hit ctrl esp, which brings up, a task manager.
( this prob works for all who use kde)

But he created a bat file, so its def for windows. I think that's called a bash file on linux.
