drumkits and sample slicer perhaps?
What is a drumkit? How could you put a drumkit in a PC? What do you mean with sample slicer? Can you read my mind?
There is many samples slicers in vst form. In FL Studio is a native sample slicer. You just put on it a wav audio and then you can slice to it.
eg - you have the software devide a wave-file in tiny discrete samples automatically! These samples are then possible to distribute over a set of keys. Yes a slicer is a super thing, but also difficult
What i would sugest was a feature that imports n samples from a specified folder, and distribute these smaples over a part of the keyboard -just like the general user drumkit, ot the zasfx 'instrument' named 'drums'. Slicing would then be a manual task, but then ½ the feature was implented, and the complicated part (auto-slice) could come later
I would love to work on this (although my coding experience is in an entirely different industry). Can anyone recommend existing source-code that could provide a fruitful template? Perhaps audioFileProcessor?

It would be great if there were a couple of different modes for the effect of keyboard velocity: granularized sample playback speed versus no granularization.
You are most welcome to do any work on the project.
You should first read this section in the wiki:

Not sure that I'll be able to do this. I peaked into the audiofileprocessor source code, and I'll have to wrap my head around Qt signal/slot framework and midi handling.... I can see how sample slicing is handled, but the connection between midi-key and pitch etc is a bit more inscrutable (maybe the "_n" pointer?) . I guess that is a question for the devs.
I know this thread is old, but I recently found that you can load drumkits into the piano roll through a soundfont file.
