When recording MIDI live in a piano roll, as soon you click the record button with your mouse, it's recording. This is problematic if there other tracks you're trying to play along with because of the time needed to click, move back to the keyboard, get set, start playing, etc., especially if it's the opening of the overall song.
What would be very helpful would be a customizable countdown timer before recording/playback begins that will give some sort of visual and/or audio feedback. For example, if I'm recording a bassline for which I've already set up the drum beat, set a countdown timer on the recording so that it counts down from 5 or 10 before playing back the existing track and recording the new so there's time to initiate with the mouse, get set on the keyboard, and know when to start playing on the track being recorded.

Very easy to make already
Just insert a block of beeps infront of the point of record-position, and start playhead ~a bar upstream from the beep-count, then you have all the you need to be ready for the play-along part in the piano-roll
A timer would still be a lot nicer than having to insert measures at the beginning of the track just to have to delete them later.
Just sayin'.

True!
A pre-made almost metronome thingie may come, but a customized gadget for this, is imo an overkill, in respect to the developing needed to make that.
There are 1000' of suggested add-ons :)
