It would be very useful to group a bunch of tracks together - say all strings, brass, woodwind, percussion.

Then it would be good to be able to show or hide those tracks at will, in order to save screen space, and make things more manageable.

This is a feature in some other DAWs - such as Logic.

It might be even better to have both groups and subgroups, so if we consider strings as an example, within many DAWs instruments such as violins often have multiple track representations - e.g. bowed (arco), pizzicato, spiccato etc - for different articulations - which uses up even more space.

If one is not working on detailed articulations, it is not necessary to see all the tracks spread out vertically.

There could be several ways of doing this - some possibly better than others. Tracks could be grouped by position, but also by tags. Tags would probably be better, as they would also allow for position, in addition to other characteristics.

It might also be possible to sort tracks - and then display them - according to attributes - something easy to do if the data is in the right sort of structure.
