Newcleus jam on it

I have not given up yet, but I am getting frustrated again.

At 1.50m that synth sound
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOQ5zZuOJZg

Or the same synthsound in the original at 3.35m
and 6.05m just this sound.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwK8-DRaLAE

Any suggestions ? I have been trying a lot of different note patterns up down up down up down up down, but that does not seem to be it.

If it's too fast, you can reduce the tempo via Audacity (e.g. 33% or 50% reduction).

Hi Gps. :)
Are you trying to figure out, how to make the synth sound?
Or are you trying to figure out, how to make that synth melody, in the piano roll?

Its more about how to do this in the piano roll.

I have tried allot but nothing sounds like the original or the droid X version. ( that one specific part )

The bassline I already have, used my midi controller for that, and also allot of trying / listening.
Also some 808 kick parts, used the midi controller and tried to play along, that worked rather well.

I think I suddenly remember why I downloaded an youtube dowloader.

I also tried some program that should be able to show the notes from a song, but could not get that working for mp3, and I do not want to compile this program myself.

The synth it self is a square with sine, propl. a tad detuned
The melody is fast, and it seams that we are talking 1/16 in a full pattern
Have you determined the
* key
* scale
* BPM?

I can confirm they have to be 1/16.

The bpm I am using ( full speed ) is 117. ( I am 99.9% sure that is right )

No idea about the key. I am using the minor scale.

After a fight with audacity , I tried vlc player, and with this program at least for me its easy to slowdown the song.
I think in audacity , you first need to make a selection, and then you can lower the speed.

I am getting closer but no cigar yet :P

What I have now:

C4 C4 C4 G4 C4 G3 D3 C4 G3 D3 C4 G3 G3 C4

Its almost like there are two patterns, a melody and a bass part.

There are some spaces though, not all notes are equally spaced.

The song has a lot of syncopation, also this melody has syncopated notes too.

ok, i have 113

I can get the cMinor key and scale to work.
So your notes are:
C D#; F; G; G#; A#; D;
(There is a complementary maj, D#Maj)
I think in audacity , you first need to make a selection, and then you can lower the speed.
yes
What I have now:
C4 C4 C4 G4 C4 G3 D3 C4 G3 D3 C4 G3 G3 C4
Thats fine -inside the scale
Its almost like there are two patterns, a melody and a bass part.
Yes i hear that too, but then i looked at the spectrum, and saw something different. different notes is not the trick, but velocity is!
Image
Both syncopation, and the feel of different notes are infact velocity!
There are one note on each tick, but they have different velocities, over 2 octaves!
Last thing to figure out is what are the note, SPAN can do that. I'll give that a try tomorrow, if you dont beat me to it :P ...Buut it is actually a given thing :p

Until those different velocity notes kick in, I can hear what going on, after that, I get totally confused timing wise.

From you're answer though, it seem I need to study audacity more.

I understand enough from waves that the spikes are a sound ( or sounds), but how you can tell they have different velocity, is beyond me. Is the frequency ? I see waves with a more open structure.

Note span ?
I can with audacity find the spacing of the notes ? :o
I wish I knew this before I tried to install Sonic visualizer, although with some vamp plugins, that program might even give you the keys played.

Only for Linux though, but there might be some windows program that can do the same.
( Edit, stupid remark its not just for Linux)
http://www.sonicvisualiser.org/download.html

It it works you will see a note patern like in our piano roll, but I could not get it working.

Cynical joke:
I should stay away in LMMS, from music I like. That gets me into trouble every time. :P

An maybe its the best way to learn, If I overlook all my frustration, I learn so much from problems like this.

Also rapper delight base line. You need to set quantization to 1/32.

Learned that from downloading a midi file, and trying to play along on my midi controller.
( using only one key to get the right timing in lmms)
If I set the Q bigger it kills the funk.

The timing is there to be read right from the spectrum. The 'fatter' the sound, the more dense the paint, so the 2 solid blues are the bassdrum, and that gives you the timing, because you know where that usually hits
how you can tell they have different velocity
They have different amplitude, thats the same
Note span ?
Nooo I meant the analizer-tool SPAN, but if one also exists for linux, idk (my bad- sorry)
I can with audacity find the spacing of the notes ? :o
Yes, because you can read the ms between notes, and we also already agreed, that there are notes all all ticks
Sonic visualizer,
Looks like SPAN but with even more info - Good program
that program might even give you the keys played.
Yes, because a specific note has a specific oscillation

I made a mistake when i said 1/16, because it is 1/32
But long story short i made your beat, we can now add files to messages, so the project is attached
And the notes - well, they are C -All of them, just variated with velosity
C because the key was Cmin :)
(it not 100% same syncopation, but you can change that
