How to make emotional-sounding strings

At the beginning of this song (https://soundcloud.com/zasriel/brand-i- ... chronicles), playing at the same time as the chiptunes, is a great sounding string instrument I would like to replicate for my own Asgore AU song.

How can I replicate something that kinda sounds like that? Which SoundFont or VST should I use? Do I use continuous chords or one continuous note?

strings goes 'emotional' with addition of LowPass-filter (LP). You also get that uplifting effect know in trance, when you open the LP

VST definitively Synth1! Not only can you find 1001 free presets of strings, but the depth and color is amazing!
SF , nah.. I would go for zynAddSubFX (zyn)
If you take time to learn zyn, the generator has some amazing qualities, but since i already said Synth1, enough said :p
-in fact even 3oc can make good strings:

Chords are fuller, but a single note can create a feeling of loneliness of great distance, so it depends on what you are aiming for.

You can use layers of violins and other strings. You can also make supersaws and layer it with the strings. I personally like using T-Force Alpha Plus for my supersaws.

You can make a simple chord progression and just change things up as you go. Adding a slow arp or simple top melody may help.
Woohoo! This is a tough one to answer. :P
There are so many ways, of making emotional sounding strings.
And sometimes, you can accidently create them.
I don't know where to start. :P
