Trying to make house, but feels like I am failing

Messing my my track and some of the percussion at 122 BPM.

What can I say ?
Lol, it already starts to sound more house like.
Clap is louder, kicks for now untouched. ( side chained )
I might turn down some of the side chaining, or EQ different.

Also googled on how fast house is.
It said 115 -130 bpm.

Mine was at 130 bpm but that was definitely too fast.

Think there is hope for a house track still :P

Calf side chain compressor.
Oh that plugin. Makes sense now.
I'll check out both umcaruje's and musikbear's tut in a while.

You can just drop it on a channel, and it already works, you can however also have one synth being the trigger for the side chaining, the triple os for example.
Aye. Good tips.

What am I doing wrong? Also would like feedback on what I made, I am quite happy with it, but does not feel like its house ?

When I say House I am thinking of tracks like this:
Feel free to correct me if those tracks aren't house. :)

Simon & Shaker - Zero (Original Mix Edit)

Frankie Knuckles - Your Love

Kraze - The Party

Yo man (:

It's about the first link :
- For me, it's the synth and the kicks that are very present and too aggressive for house. That's just the "big point". Otherwise it's good sound! Just the musical genre that is different. And the overall sound is too fast for house. Not progressive and alternative enough. With various ups and downs.

So, keep it up man ! The most important is that you like what you do.(;
PEACE !
I have been thinking about you're feedback. The song structure is not right when were talking (classic) house.
To some extent this was bothering me already, but your feedback made me realise this even more.

It should be more like verse chorus verse ....
Yes, exactly. But you can transform the sound, or you can keep it for another style, and take it back to the base and make a new one that's really house. Don't give up, man ! (:

Have you tried a limiter ? on the kick.

One thing I have noticed from watching vids, how often they use all kinds of plugins on the kick to make it more boomyish more fat.

There is a house tutorial, the guy spends allot of time on the kick.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VotQgzP6Uxg

kick with reverb tail.

he uses an E.Q. too.

Edit:
After looking at my track.

I am using 3 kicks, layered as they call it.
Also using side chain compression for the kick to be more present.

Still need to finish it.
I forgot to post back. :P

That vid was really interesting. Some of the techniques he used in it, I was already kinda familiar with. But I like what he did with the kick sound, and how he made that tune too. I wish the camera dude, zoomed into his computer screen, when he was showing some of his techniques, but despite that, it was fun to watch. :)

I used to use limiters on kick sounds, but sometimes the limiters, alter the sound of the kick drums, and I don't like that at all. I think that's why, I stay away from them most of the time.
From my own experience, its almost impossible to to have the kick very present without extra tricks.

I untill now always thought it was just an mixing issue. :)

Good point. And of course, the bass is the other trouble maker. Lol!

This Cahill remix of Hannah's song. Wow! It sounds really nice.

LOL, just yesterday , I did put an equalizer on my minimoog base, to cut off some of the low end.
It was totally overpowering my kicks. :)

Although I have a track kinda finished, I am not happy.

While listening to the early house, I turned on my LMMS track to see how well it matched.

( played them together )

My percussion, and base line are not the problem My melody is.

The notes in my melody are way to different from the four to the floor and my bass line rhythm wise.

Rhythm wise, the lead sounds, not really a melody, need to be in the same groove, for it to be house.

At least I finally have figured out were I took a left turn while making this track. :D
