Have you tried a limiter ? on the kick.
I was thinking about doing that, but for some strange reason it sounded more bland.

One thing I have noticed from watching vids, how often they use all kinds of plugins on the kick to make it more boomyish more fat.

There is a house tutorial, the guy spends allot of time on the kick.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VotQgzP6Uxg

kick with reverb tail.

he uses an E.Q. too.

Edit:
After looking at my track.

I am using 3 kicks, layered as they call it.
Also using side chain compression for the kick to be more present.

Still need to finish it.
Yeah. I normally use an equalizer to make my kicks sound fatter and boomyer.

Reverb? I forgot about that trick. Lol! I think I'll try that out and see if it works for me in this case.

I was thinking about layering some kicks, but I'm still thinking if I should go ahead and do that.

Thanks for the link Gps. I'll check out the vid in a while. :D
How could I forget side chaining.

Play with the plugin, it already works, when you just drop it on a channel,

No I don't understand why.

It can really help to make the kick more present.

Good tip.
But which plugin are you speaking of?
Calf side chain compressor.

You can just drop it on a channel, and it already works, you can however also have one synth being the trigger for the side chaining, the triple os for example.

You will need to dial the ammount and treshold knob in general to hear it though.

You can make the typical trance ducking sound with it, but also just use it to make the kick more present.

I think this was the best tutorial, bus as I said you can also just drop it on a channel, instead of the bit more complicated way.

There are also tutorials, doing it the way Umcaruje does not think is right.

What I literately did for my track, just tried it on a few channels, then listened if it was doing what I wanted after turning some knobs..
Just dropping it on a channel, might not be enough if you're after the trance ducking sound. Then you might have to do it as the vid shows. I think musicbear was one of the people stating this vid shows the best / right way to do it.
I am quite happy with the result.

What do you guys think ? :)

What am I doing wrong? Also would like feedback on what I made, I am quite happy with it, but does not feel like its house ?

When I say House I am thinking of tracks like this:
Feel free to correct me if those tracks aren't house. :)

Simon & Shaker - Zero (Original Mix Edit)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiJ-rOA62W8

Frankie Knuckles - Your Love
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zl6uliNCkUU

Kraze - The Party
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxQQ04kN6M4

Yo man (:

It's about the first link :
- For me, it's the synth and the kicks that are very present and too aggressive for house. That's just the "big point". Otherwise it's good sound! Just the musical genre that is different. And the overall sound is too fast for house. Not progressive and alternative enough. With various ups and downs.

So, keep it up man ! The most important is that you like what you do.(;
PEACE !
bonnets reggae
Funny you mention the kicks, did allot of work to have them very present.
I need money for studio monitors or studio headphone. :P

I am at 130 bpm, will have a listen at 128 and lower.

It does sound fast for house.

I have been thinking about you're feedback. The song structure is not right when were talking (classic) house.
To some extent this was bothering me already, but your feedback made me realise this even more.

It should be more like verse chorus verse ....

What you have here, sounds really nice. And the kick and clap beat and melody sound really good.
Maybe it's my speakers, they have been giving trouble for the past few weeks. But I think the kick and clap sound, should be a bit louder?

Too fast? Interesting.
Maybe somewhere around 110 bpm might work.

Thank you,

Well this is interesting.

One person thinks the kicks should be louder, the other one thinks they are too present.

Maybe this proofs I mixed it perfect

We all need studio monitors. I don't have the money for that though.

Studio monitors are speakers that don't colour the sound like most headphones, headsets and speakers do.

I have a sennheiser GSP 300, and although I am quite happy with it, I am pretty sure its not that great for mixing, because its a gaming headset.

Looking at some studio gear from Sennheiser, did not make me happy price wise though.

At least we agree that for house its too fast.
