There's a certain catchy beat pattern I found recurring in some popular songs, and I'm not sure how to replicate it.
https://youtu.be/nj-AZyK85yM?t=100 (timestamped link, volume warning) leads to just before this beat plays.
I am talking about the first beat thing which comes up at the beat drop right after the timestamp the link points to. It sounds like a series of notes on the piano roll of a drum instrument played in very quick succession, but when I try to replicate it, it simply sounds like a kick drum is being violently thrown on a rock.
Can someone show how this pattern would be replicated on a piano roll of a drum instrument?
Another more well known example (and I apologize about the lyrics, but this was the most obvious example I could find):

This beat pattern plays twice in the first line, on 'by' and 'the' with a pause in between.
