All of those suggested by the other guys are great! :D
You could also check out DSK Vst's.
They're Cool!!
Everyone so far has mentioned instruments, but there are also VST effects! I recommend EasyQ (a very easy EQ), Ambience (awesome reverb), CMT Bitcrusher (very straightforward bitcrusher with overdrive, bit depth reduction, and downsampling), DBlue Glitch (really cool glitch effect sequencer), Camel Crusher (distortion, fat compressor, and lowpass filter), and FerricTDS (very straightforward and good sounding saturation).

Lots of people have mentioned Synth1, and I completely vouch for it, because it's easy to use but really, really, *serious face* really powerful.

Also, I haven't seen anyone mention TyrellN6 yet! It has a cool analogish sound and I really love using it for basses. Plus the chorus sounds really nice.

(P.S. all of these are free)

Yeah. :D
That's why I mentioned DSK Vst's.
They are made up of both instrument Vst's and Effect Vst's.

The ones you mentioned, are very good too averystrangeguy.

Synth 1 is very very cool!!
Oh yes, as mentioned by everyone, check out Synth 1. :D
It's Awesome!!
Some free - old school - sounds (some could be Windows only, sorry) if anyone remembers the 1970's ...

A Minimoog VSTi: http://www.kvraudio.com/product/minimog ... oltkitchen

Moog Prodigy Vsti: http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?pl ... ro&id=2240

Mellotron Vsti: http://www.tweakbench.com/tapeworm
I made a list of some VSTi versions of classic analog synthesizers.
They sound great and are fun to play. Many have links to factory manuals.
