Percussion totorial ?

Questions about producing? Ask them here.
I am still having fun with LMMS, but I get rather frustrated about percussion.
The prob is not lmms though I suspect the problem to be, me not having a clue about how to play drums.

Does anybody know of good tutorials, preferable DAW specific.

What I have tried myself is watching all kinds of music vids, and then paying attention to the drummer, but in lmms I fail constantly to create anything that sounds like it.

One problem I have is about transitions. Can we do this in the beat and bass line editor ?
Or do I have to use the piano roll ?

The other problem.

One example of a cover I am trying to do right now.

Moby - Go
The start is a no brainer simple 1,2,3,4

But then, and to be specific, the below vid from around 1 min and on.
I see moby plays bongos ?

I hear something like tjk tjk tjk tjk boom :P

Why I get so frustated is because if you ask me the drum along with my hand on a table, I do not have a problem.
Then I open a project in lmms, and I draw a blank.

How do you guys do this?

My question is not just about Moby - Go. I am having this issue with every freaking song I try to cover, and it is getting on my nerves.
There must be something I am overlooking or do not get ?

I also downloaded a midi file, this helped a bit but not much. I did make me wonder if you can create beats like this in the beat and bassline editor.
Because if I understand this at least a bit, the midi file has drum beats in places were you cant place hits in the bbe?

Between the famous One and a Two. :P ?

If it helps, were I got the midi file form:
http://musicnoteslib.com/tabs/Moby-Go-4294965331.html

I also watched that sheet music, but that only confuses me even more.
I do not see in between hits, which are in the midi file, and I am pretty sure I am hearing, what I like to call in-between hits.

Another song, which has for me that exact same problem:
And as far as I get it, its kind of the same type of rhythym as go. ( tjk tjk tjk tjk tjk tjk boom)
dub be good to me - beats International.

To be honest, in the past two-three years i've been working on LMMS, I've just learned how to make appropriate beats for LMMS. In fact, I met a guy that used LMMS who has the exact same problem. I eventually gave him one of my beats that i had created and he used it for one of his songs. I decided that it was the example that can help you with making beats. So I made this https://soundcloud.com/user-494489455/4-beats

I hope it helps!

Best regards,
Leche
Thanks, I just listened to it, and its helping a bit. Prob because I recognize the sounds :P

Its funny that the part that sounds the easiest, seems to be the hardest to get right.

That is so true.
there is a nice percussion tutorial in wiki, but you knew that -right?

Thank you and yes, I ones did that Amen Break and the four to the floor as its called,
That wiki looks great btw, when I did the amen break it was with crosses and lines, not yet with pics of the bbe. Good job. :)

A real drummer ( read that somewere) will hit harder on the first beat, and prob be a little bit to early.
I can do this in the piano role, but can I do this in the bbe ?
I know I can lower the volume of hits in the bbe, but I cant influence the timing?

Most musician seems to do this, that were the emphasis in music is, and the reason, why if you do not do this, the music will sound like its computer generated (pun intended)

Lets forget about moby for now, that is so fast I doubt anybody can really hear what they are doing.

But that second link, Dub be good to me.

Were is the emphasis ?

I hear rather fast hi hats ? Or is it snares ? I am guessing 8 hits, and then different drum, every 2 count ?
Is the emphasis on the first hi hat hit, or on that other drum. Or on both ?

He also uses a kick drum ? ( we can see him do two kicks ones in a while ?
dug -dug -dug -dugdug ? Is that posible in the bbe ?

sure you can. just open the BB-line in piano-roll, and you can move notes to any position. A.o you could mark all and move all, and you would have a 'swing', either up or down from the normal beat.

Your link - He emphasis with a snare, so it is a simultaneous kick+snare hit
You can actually use audacity to study the composition. Record it, and magnify it in audacity, then you can see and hear the 'hits' together
You can eq the recording to enhance frequencies. That way it is easier to see the peaks
Thank you LMMS forum and Musicbear.

Here, I hope some short proof, that I have been listening to you guys. ( for the last two? years)

If someone is interested in the lmms file, just tell me.
Nothing special, a phazer, some chords, and percussion with different note volumes. ( but I am very happy with how it sounds)
And some quick and dirty EQ.

For me again a step forward. Things falling into place.

I am still struggling to get that dub be good, rhythm nailed.

Never give up never surrender. To be continued....
Found something.
You Tube vid. & beats every drummer should know.

What is great ( for me ) about this, is that the sheet mucic is shown too.

One anda Two anda Three anda Four

At 18 minutes, I think he is doing the one I am after.
