LADSPA Effect Plugin Information (Windows)

Questions about producing? Ask them here.
The majority of LADSPA effect plugins that come with LMMS (Windows) lack proper documentation. Some of them lack even the most basic info. For example, zm1_1428.dll will only give you the name of the plugin "z-1" and no description.

The LMMS LADSPA wiki page currently only covers basic info with C* Plate2x2 and Vocoder as examples:

If LADSPA plugins had GUIs, they may have been easier to use and understand:

I did some searching and I found the following bits of info:

- Download these files and extract the manual (doc) for info about the Calf plugins:
http://calf-studio-gear.org/files/calf-0.0.60.tar.gz
http://calf-studio-gear.org/files/calf- ... re1.tar.gz
http://calf-studio-gear.org/files/calf- ... re2.tar.gz
http://calf-studio-gear.org/files/calf- ... re4.tar.gz
http://calf-studio-gear.org/files/calf- ... re5.tar.gz
- Detailed/Technical info about the C* plugins: http://quitte.de/dsp/caps.html
- Info about plugins made by Steve Harris can be found here: http://plugin.org.uk/ladspa-swh/docs/ladspa-swh.html
- Info about the TAP plugins: http://tap-plugins.sourceforge.net/ladspa/manuals.html

I cannot guarantee that all the info I found are accurate and complete. Likewise, there may be info about plugins that LMMS doesn't even have.
Thank you good find, from a linux user. :)

( Or is there something I am missing ? )
I'm curious to which (set of) LADSPA plugins are the most popular. I've seen many projects that use the C* plugins, while TAP plugins seem to be less widely used.
I will add this to the wiki at next revision
Only wonder if its fully relevant for lmms, because some special fiddelings has been done to the lmms plugins, afaik.

In respect to TAP v. C * i feel that the issue is more like 'i use to do..' and not so much 'wonder if i can do different or even better'
the question is perhaps really, if lmms has to many plugins. So it goes back to the Better Have few with great quality
versus
Pile up a load of quality-challenged stuff which is not understood at all..
One thing though:
The plugins that has been made especially for lmms, like Waveshaper is significantly better than LADSPA similars (imo

Indeed, and I would like to see some more plugins custom tailored for LMMS. Currently there's an EQ plugin in development that will have a proper GUI, which is going to be awesome: https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/issues/2347

Besides EQ, my choice for the next plugin would be a compressor/limiter with a GUI, because I think these two will matter the most when it comes to mixing. A good compressor/limiter will also likely remedy one of the most common problems newer LMMS users have: improper loudness and clipping/distortion.

That being said, the reason why LADSPA plugins have no GUI is to preserve cross-platform compatibility. But the lack of documentation for many of these plugins won't encourage people to use them, and they will likely go for external plugins like VSTs.

Now this is definitely something, I will definitely be looking out for.

Yep.
That will definitely come in very very handy, especially if it has a nice GUI. :)

Wow! I just checked out the link and saw alot of nice GUI examples.
That Eq plugin looks really cool.
I like the cool metallic grey looking background gradient.
But I think a cool blueish background gradient, would be good too.
Omg omg omg :)

This is music to my ears. Does this also include the site chain compressor ?

I am now using easyQ which is by it self pretty good, but it makes at least on linux lmms less stable.
