How do you change the sized of piano roll blocks?

Questions about producing? Ask them here.
I was working on composing a song, and there was a very small solo instrumental break, and the the music picked back up. The issue is, do you know the little boxes that you double click to bring up the piano? Those boxes were too big. The size of the solo instrumental did not fill up the size of the box, and there was a lot of dead silence between that and the next box. If I shift the rest of the music one box over, it is then on top of the solo instrumental. How do I adjust the length of the length of those little boxes?

Also, I probably sound like a fool because I am sure those little boxes have a name, but I hope you understand the issue.
Could you show us a screenshot. :)
i think i understand your problem. :)
A workaround solution: you put the break part and the following part into a box together.

You want put the yellow and blue part together. If you do it without a workaround you will have a big silence between the two boxes because they have a fixed sized. To avoid this you have to combine the yellow and the blue part into a new single one (the green).

Unfortunately the new green box has a fixed size of two boxes...

Yes! That is exactly the issue? But can you do that with two separate instruments? Can you put two separate VSTs into one box? Otherwise, will it allow you to put empty space in the beginning of a piano roll to delay it from starting?
Perhaps I haven't understood what you're asking but if you're talking about in Song Editor each of those blocks is one or more complete measures/bars. But you can have as much empty space in a piano roll block as you want. Just don't put any notes in the space you want silent. Then you can put in two blocks at the same time but with different instruments, one playing e.g.the first half of a measure and the other playing the rest.

Another way of doing it might be to use Automation on the volume of the main track. When you want to clear a space for your break just fade (or drop) the volume down to zero and fade it back up when the break finishes. See https://lmms.io/documentation/Automation_Editor for ideas or this tutorial seems to cover what you need https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nypecJL3cP0

Your problem with the 'boxes' which btw are called Track-blocks or just Blocks :) Are not uncommon for new users.
The thing that is missed, is that no-one hinders you in making notes starting at bar-3 second beat 2. tick
Such a block will just be silent when the song-editors triangular play-head enters the block, and then it will produce notes as the play-head reaches the actual notes.
See what i mean?
Instrument 1 in track-1 may be playing from pos 0bar up to bar-3 second beat 2. tick, and there instrument2 in track2 kicks in, but those two blocks would have exact the same length, and start at same position in the song-editor.
Got it? ;)
Using what everyone has said, I have solved my issue! Thank you very much for helping out a newbie, this is a great community!
