It's a sick growl. How can we synthesize it?

Yes, it's a terrible pun, but I believe the Skrillexish growl in this tutorial can be replicated in ZynAddSubFx. I tried for a little bit, but got stumped on varying the modulation. Perhaps one of you could crack this? (and PLEASE let us know how you did it)

Wooah!
Interesting growl. It sounds very decepticonish.

I have a suspicion, this sound could possibly be made in Monstro as well.
I have made some whacky sounds in Synth 1, but I'm wondering, if I could make it in Synth 1.
I'll try and see.

If, I'm somehow successful, I 'll post it here.
tried, but no good in zasfx

I think you might have better luck with an FM synth (as in the tutorial) but the modulation facilities in 3OSC might be enough. I'll give it a try when I find a minute.

I think you are right. A harsh saw on osc1, FM-modulated of a shape in osc2, then just mute or sub-set osc3

oadn. (sort off.. :) Does anyone know a good free VST FM-synth?

I've tried a couple of them (FMMF and the original Hexter) but I still have trouble getting my head round FM synthesis so I never got very far. The fact that Hexter can use DX7 patches is interesting but for designing sounds I liked FMMF better (4 operators is enough!).

Yep 3OSC will definitely do something very close. Try Osc 1>2 FM with 1 on Saw, 2 on Triangle and an octave lower (3 can be off or try it on MIX 2 octaves down at low level). You need a fairly slow attack and release. If you touch the fine tune controls go very slow with them...a tiny change make a huge difference to the sound. Then play with level of Osc 1 until you get something sick enough for you.

That sir, is a very sick sound. I couldn't seem to get any vowel sounds out of it, but it still would be an awesome synth for dubstep. Thank you very much! God bless and good day
You're welcome, and to be honest that wasn't difficult. Whenever I play with FM synths I seem to get a lot more sounds like that than the nice clean ones I'm usually aiming for ;).

Here are my two attempts with ZASFX.

Not exact by far, but sick growls nonetheless
