Need help making a certain sound (sound effects, ect)

Hi!

So i'm currently working on a game, (a SHMUP), and need help with sound effects and stuff.

I'm creating this completely by myself, and since I'm not too skilled in actually making music professionally, sound effects and music are a bit hard to do (although, music is slightly easier since I've made music before with lmms).

I do know my way around lmms now, so I'm alright with stuff like that.

Anyway, onto the question: I'm trying to make an alarm sound for a boss warning type of thing, and the reason I'm asking here is because things like zynaddsubfx are pretty good with stuff like that, I've been told. Does anyone have any advice or ways i can do this?
(also, i'm not too skilled with zynaddsubfx, so if you could actually say stuff that probably makes sense to me, as in terminology, ect, that'd be greatly appreciated ;) )

And tips in general on making these sound effects would be great aswell :D

Thanks!

Nee, zasfx is very much an instrument, great for that, but the best generator for FX, that is srFX
Study that a bit, and if you have specific problems come back and ask again
-Then perhaps also link to an example with that kind of alarm, because 'alarm' can be so many things
Freeboy is also harsh and 8 bittie in output, and can also do good game FX's

I should have mentioned, I actually originally used sfxr and the 8 bit plugins, but i then realised with the edm-y type of music, it didn't really fit.

And for an example... hmm, i can't really think of anything off the top of my head. The Erazor preset is similar, but I'd rather make my own.

I sort of want a long slow alarm sound that ends suddenly or either increases in pitch/volume for a second right at the end, if you know what i mean.

Edit:
I just remembered right afterwards, the boss warning from Nanostray 2 has the exact sound I'm looking for:

I imagined mine being a bit deeper and going on for longer.

ahh.. that is a pitch-variated envelope/ or lfo. There is really no instruments in lmms other than zasfx that has this feature, but you need more aggressive sound, than zasfx, so i would recommend Synth1.
I made a tutorial recently on setting up a pitch lfo

Maby i should mention, that it can be made with 'pr-note automation', but it is a bit of a hazzle -A pitch lfo is much simpler

Well, if he wanted to record his own sample waveform, he could use the pitch automation for AudioFileProcessor. That does pitch bend automation.

hmm, i followed your tutorial, but it doesn't seem as aggressive as i wanted it to be, here is the version i've made:
(2 versions are played, one without the voice clip i'm using, and one with that plays afterwards):

(this website makes the quality a lot worse than what it is.. sorry about that.)

create the sound you want, record it and create a small wave sample from that sound using audacity about 3/10 of a second long, then import it into AFP. tweak the method as needed

yeah but, i've said i'm pretty new to music making, so i don't know how to make it. if i would, i probably wouldn't be asking here

You have a fine pitch change!
To get it harsher/ aggressive, Add detuning, and try one of the in-build distortion-effects (upper right panel)
Brandy has also made many fx tutorials

If you study a bit, then you will get a better understanding of the VST.
If you have difficulties understanding one or several specific dials/ settings, just ask
