Drone music

Questions about producing? Ask them here.
Greetings!

I am interested in sustained minimalistic music called Drone. Also, I make this kind of music, but I couldn't find any tools in LMMS which can help me make nice drones.

I am on Linux, so I can't use DSK Darkness Theory (This VST helps you make very nice and mind-numbing drones!) and I couldn't find any good drone-sounding instruments in ZynAddSubFX.

What can I do?

Since most like me do not know who or what it is, could you find a youtube /soundcloud example and post the link.

This confuses me slightly. Have you the correct WINE installed?
Read this chapter about VSTs in linux,

but if you have tried DSK Darkness Theory, and it failed, that is also interesting info, because then i can update the DB

As I am a Linux user, I installed LMMS from Ubuntu repositories and I didn't install it on wine, and I didn't read that wiki pages. I'll read them and test, then I will tell you that Darkness Theory works or not :)

Drone sounds? Like this? :D

Check out the link above musikbear. I believe this is what he's talking about.
The drone sound, sounds like an unusual sustained pad sound. :)

@Haghiri75
The person who made this music track, is an Lmms user who used Alchemy, for the sounds and drone sound.
ZynAddSubFX and Synth 1 are some great vst's, that can be used to create drone sounds.
And you can create them from scratch and make them sound as you like.

This tut shows, how to make a drone sound, using Synth 1.

It might be an old tut, but it's still quite useful. :D

PS: I have never made a drone sound before. So I think I'll try and make one and see if I can pull something off. :D
Thanks! That's awesome! I'll try "Alchemy" as soon as I can.

UHOH -do NOT install lmms ON wine !!!
You need correct WINE in order to install the VST extension-pack for your specific distro! ONLY for that, but reading the linked pages also explains this

No i know what drone is, i only address his no VST problem :)
He is clearly installing a wrong pack, that is with no WINE and hence no VST support in LMMS
Had to sort out the same problem as the OP yesterday.
Ubuntu doesn't install VST support, even if you have Wine installed, as far as I could tell it's not even in the repository. Most straightforward way around this is to install KXStudio repos (instructions on http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/Repositories ,) update the software (it would update LMMS along with some other stuff like JACK, and auto-install VST support, at least it did it for me) and manually create a new drive letter in winecfg for /usr/lib/lmms (as per the wiki/). Then you can put VSTs somewhere in your home directory and use them.

You don't need full KXStudio, just whatever it updates from the repos along with the LMMS. Or so I think. I had full KXStudio at some point, but it was one big crash, three Ubuntu versions and countless weird experiments ago. My memories of just what is and isn't installed on this system and why are fuzzy. :)

ADD: Just tried this exact VST (DSK Darkness Theory) and it works for me. Thanks OP for the pointer, by the way, it's definitely a very good atmosphere/drone synth (Ethereal Padz 2 from the same dev is worth looking into too, if you're into this kind of thing.)

Yes, that also what we recommend in the wiki article i link, but i think its bee tried already?
There is also another WINE thread at the moment
