Tutorial 23 (Free boy tut)

Build up Mario drop game sound

Okay guys, it's back to making sounds. And today, we're using the good ol' Freeboy plugin for this tut.

1) First off, open up good ol' Freeboy plugin. :P
Image

-------------------------------------------------------------

2) Okay. Now go to the mid row section of Freeboy.
Image
Turn the:
SRS dial (aka The SweepRtShift amount)to 6

ST Time dial (aka Sweep time) to 5

Oh, you see these arrows to the side
Image
Leave them just as they are seen, in the pic. We're not going to interfere with those. :D

------------------------------------------------------------------

3) Now lets go to this section.
Image

Turn the Vol dial, located to the left hand side in this section, to the full left until it hits 0.
This volume dial, is called the Square Volume Channel 2.

Note: If you Hover your arrow cursor over it, and the name of the dial will appear.
You can do that for any other dial too.

Do you see the second volume dial, that's on the far right? That is the (noise volume).
Turn that Volume dial, to 0 or to any number of your choice also.
This volume reduces the noise, or adds
some noise to the sound, to give it an old school vintage sound to it.
. :D

And that's the end, of our basic tut. :D

-------------------------------------------------------------

4) Press hold the Y key. Nice sound eh?
Press or hold, any other keyboard key of your choice. and you get, lots of different cool sounds.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Don't forget to check the Table of Contents, on Page 1. :D
Enjoy!! 8-)
You should make a pack of 8-bit samples and have Mayo Staccato release them. You have quite a few :D
Etorna_Z wrote:You should make a pack of 8-bit samples and have Mayo Staccato release them. You have quite a few :D
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! I was thinking of doing that, for a good while now. :D
Even slipstick suggested to me, to release a Synth 1 preset pack too.

These tuts were made, to help encourage people, to learn to make cool sounds, and learn about the dials
on vst's and lmms plugins. So they could learn, to make their own sounds one day.
If I were to release, a preset pack anytime soon, it would defeat the learning purpose.

But, as I told slipstick last year:
I will try to release preset packs, as soon as I post alot more tuts. The more presets, the better. 8-)
And I might also release some, on Mayo Staccato's web page. :)

PS: To everyone, don't forget to check the table of contents, on page one. :D
Tutorial 24

Nice Full sounding Bass Drop using the (Nescaline) plugin.

Yep. Guess you didn't know I was going to make tut's using the Nescaline synth. Ha! Ha! :)
It's Nescaline time! 8-)

1) Open Nescaline, by dragging it into Lmms. :)
This is a pic of what nescaline looks like.
Image
Yep. It looks like an old school Nintendo game console, from back in the 80's. 8-)

------------------------------------------------

2) Do you see the small red rectangle lights, next to the words CH 2, CH 3 and CH 4?
Press on them to take them off. Once it turns black, it means each channel is off.
Image
You'll notice in this pic, only CH 1 has a red light.
Only CH 1 should have a red light on. And all of the others CH 2, CH 3, CH 4
should be off. (black colour)

In other words:
red = on
black colour = off

-----------------------------------------------

3) Now lets go to CH 1 also known as Channel 1.
You'll see the words VOL, CRS, LEN
Image
We want these dials turned to these numbers.

VOL = 15
CRS = 0
LEN = 0

----------------------------------------------

4) Look for the word WIDTH. This is a pic of it.
Image
You will notice that there are 4 blocks under the word WIDTH. And the 1st block is red.

Now press on the 3rd block. When you press it, it will look like the pic below.
Image

Now that we have the good ol' 3rd block selected, we can make our sound.

-----------------------------------------------

5) Look for the words, ENV, infinite loop symbol and sweep, at the top.
Image
You'll notice, that they are all off. (Black in colour.)

We want the Sweep option on. Because it will help make our drop sound.
So press the small rectangle next to the word Sweep, to turn it on.
Red colour means Sweep option is on.
Image

-----------------------------------------------

6) Now lets head to the Amt and Rate dials.
Image
These two dials will help the Sweep option, make our sound descend.
So we shall turn each of them, to a specific number. :)

AMT = -3
RATE = 3

-----------------------------------------------

7) Press and hold the C3 key, on your piano.
Or if you're using a PC keyboard, press and hold the Z key.

You'll hear the Dooooooosh! Sound. Lol! :lol:

Now play around and press and hold keys below, above, or between C2 to C3.

Have fun dudes. :D

Because it is important and will help make our cartoony rising build up 8 bit style sound.
So press the small rectangle next to the word Sweep, to turn it on.

Image

-----------------------------------------------

Tutorial 26

8 bit bouncey ping pong sound using the (Nescaline) plugin.

Okay guys, another new tut for this week.
Today, we use the nescaline plugin, to make a 8 bit bouncey ping pong type sound.

Okay, here we go:

1) Drag Nescaline, into Lmms. :)
Image

------------------------------------------------

2) Do you see the small red rectangle lights, next to the words CH 2, CH 3 and CH 4?
Press each one of them, to take them off. Once it turns black, it means each channel is off.
Image
You'll notice in this pic, only CH 1 has a red light.
Only CH 1 should have a red light on. And all of the others CH 2, CH 3, CH 4
should be off. (black colour)

In other words:
red = on
black colour = off

Don't forget. ;)

-----------------------------------------------

3) Now lets go to CH 1 also known as Channel 1.
You'll see the words VOL, CRS, LEN
Image
Like in the previous tuts, we want these dials turned to these numbers.
(Note: these numbers are already set by default)

VOL = 15
CRS = 0
LEN = 0

----------------------------------------------

4) Again, we look for the word WIDTH. :)
Image
You will notice that there are 4 blocks under the word WIDTH. And the 1st block is red.

We want to use the third block. :)
Now press on the 3rd block. When you press it, it will look like in the pic below.
Image

Now with the good ol' 3rd block selected, we can start to make our sound effect. :)

-----------------------------------------------

5) Look for the words, ENV, infinite loop symbol and sweep, at the top.
You can see them in the pic below. :D
Image
You'll notice, that they are all off. (Black in colour.)

Turn them all on. By pressing each black button.
Red colour means, that env, Sweep and infinite option is on.

-----------------------------------------------

6) Lets head to the Amt and Rate dials.
Image
These two special dials, will help make our sound.
We shall turn the dials, to these numbers. :)

AMT = -3
RATE = 2

Now press hold the A4 key on your piano, or the Y key, on your PC keyboard.
Interesting sound huh?

But, it does not sound like a bouncing ping pongy sound.
Well, we have one more dial to turn. :)

-----------------------------------------------

7) Now for the fun part. :D
Lets turn the LEN dial. This dial is very special.

LEN, stands for envelope length.
With the help of those 3 options, we turned on in Step 5, this LEN dial, will literally help
make any sound we make in nescaline, multiply, or repeat in succession.
In other words, it'll help give us the repeating, bouncy sounding ping pong effect. 8-)

Image

LEN = 2

And that's it. :D
-----------------------------------------------

8) Now Press and hold the A4 key, on your piano.
Or if you're using a PC keyboard, press and hold the Y key.
And that's our bouncy ping pongy sound.

Now play around and press hold any key you like.
Hold any key for a short time, hold it for a long time and enjoy the fun.

Have fun dudes. And see you for my next tut. 8-)
Tutorial 27
(Another simple newbie tut)

Inside of a Scary Cartoony Ufo with Alien Tech type sound (Nescaline version)

The last time, we made this sound, we used Lmms' sfxr plugin. And that tut, was put on page 9.
This time, for Nescaline fans, we are going to make a similar sound, using nescaline. :D
But believe it or not, this tut is super short. Lol! :mrgreen:
So here we go......

1) First off, lets drag in good 'ol Nescaline again. :D
Image

---------------------------------------------------

2) For this tut, we only want CH 3..... on.
Image
Take all of the other channels off. :)

---------------------------------------------------

3) Do you see the CRS dial? It's next to the VOL dial.
Image
Turn it to the following number.
CRS = -7

---------------------------------------------------

4) Now head to the Master part dudes. :D
And look for a dial called VIBR. Which means Vibrato.
Image

The Vibrato dial, is the same magical dial, we used, when we made this same sound, using the sfxr plugin.

VIBR = 4

And that's it guys. :D

--------------------------------------------------

Now Press hold, either the R or T or Y key, on your PC keyboard.
Yep. You have just made the same/similar Inside of a Scary Cartoony Ufo with Alien Tech type sound
using the Nescaline.

If you want to try out the sfxr version, check page 9.

I hope you guys enjoyed this tut.
And don't forget to check the Table of Contents on page 1.

Stay tuned next week, for the next one. 8-)
Tutorial 28
(Game sound effects tut)

Pulsating energy field door

Okay guys. This week, I bring to you another cool super short tut, to start off this week. :)
Today, we make a Pulsating energy field door sound, 8 bit style using nescaline.
But it could be used for non 8 bit games too. Ha! Ha! :D
You know, those force field type barrier doors, seen in alot of video games, where you have to
find a switch to turn it off, so you can go to the next room/level? Yep. That type of door. :)

So here we go. :D

1) First off, we bring in our fav Lmms' plugin nescaline.

Image

-----------------------------------------------------------

2) We only want CH 4 on, just like in the pic below.
Image

-----------------------------------------------------------

3) Now lets find CH 4's Freq dial. It's on the right side of the VOL dial.
Now lets turn it. :D
Image
Freq = 3

----------------------------------------------------

4) Now lets head over to the right hand side of CH 4.
Do you see the word MODE?
Image

Once you find the word MODE, press on the small black rectangle, to turn it on.
A red rectangle, means it is on.
Image

----------------------------------------------------

5) Now press and hold, any PC keyboard key, or any key on your piano keyboard.
You'll hear a pulsating noise sound, that sounds like a Pulsating energy field door. :)
This sound is good to use for Sci Fi games. Use it in your games and have tons of fun. :D

-----------------------------------------------------

More tuts coming soon.
