LMMS vs reaper

Anything that doesn't fit into other topics goes here!
Reaper is another feature-rich DAW that is popular partly due to its low price tag (for non-professional use). Reaper has more bells and whistles than LMMS but my impression is that LMMS is improving with each update -- so the two DAWs might even compete in the future.

LMMS is not meant to be a 'competing' DAW.
LMMS is free and will be for e v e r!
Imho project-LMMS has caused the commercial DAW publishers, to offer free versions of their software. Some with track-limitations, some with feature differences, but still free-versions -Even Pro-tools, that is a Studio-grade DAW, can now be found in a free version!
I see that as a 'lmms-effect' :p
Lets be brutally honest:
Lmms cant in any witch way 'compete' with Pro-tools. Pro-tools is simply just better -Even FLs is better. Its not just features, it is just better cores.
B..u..t
LMMS has a h u g e benefit over all other DAWs: LMMS is user driven!
Everything you see in LMMS is the result of user wishes!
That is a difference that lifts LMMS up over everything, especially if a user is a coder, because then the user can add his own feature and LMMS evolves every time.
No commercial DAW can offer that
LMMS is in fact a modding DAW!

Both lmms and reaper are nice. But....
If you plan to use lmms, hopefully we get to hear your music too. 8-)

If lmms isn't supposed to "compete" then what are the benefits of using it? If the free versions of FLs, ProTools and Reaper are better than lmms, then why use lmms?

Oh lmms has way more features than the free versions of the commercial daws, so the comparison would be with the expensive commercial full-featured Reaper, and then lmms cant compete -yet :p
and that 'yet' is perhaps the strongest argument for lmms: We are user-driven! -And even user-build!
The content of lmms is if not 'controlled' by users, then it is indeed influenced!
That is not the case for the commercial DAWs

Commercial DAWs have one weakness. When the company dies, the DAW dies with it. You'll lose access, since most of them use online authorization, saving Reaper, which uses traditional serial code, but it isn't free.

Yes! LMMS cant 'die', because the source-code is open and free to use.
Even if current devs stops, lmms as a project is open for all developers
