Demo New Fangled

Hello.
I learn LMMS.
I'm interesting about built-in demo named New Fangled. In description stands:
"short demo that I started making around the time I introduced dead-notes into the 302. Dead notes are activated on bar 5, and it creates a new-fangled sound. "
I don't know what exactly is meaned by "dead notes" but I noticed the change of sound in the bass line starting on bar 5, but i absolutely don't understand WHERE exactly it is "activated" and WHAT exactly is "activated"... maybe i am an idiot but i really don't see the cause of that change.
can you give me a hint?

I don't know what dead notes do but this is how it's controlled in the "New Fangled" beat.

1. Open the Bass Line (Top Llama)

2. Right click the "Dead" controlloer (bottom, close to the keyboard)

3. Choose "Edit song-global automation"

Now you can turn that control on/off by left clicking in the window.
