Hi you boyz and gals,

A new reggae track can be found here : https://soundcloud.com/user-121938440/a ... ntfordroad

This track is a tribute to the great reggae tunes of the late 60's and the early 70's (my roots).

Most of my favorite albums were recorded at Studio One. Happily enough, 2 of the best albums of this time are available on youtube:

This is sounds really good. The bass sounds good and has good volume. No problems there.
But I think the other instruments/melodies, might have more impact, if they were a tiny bit louder and brighter.

Dude. I just realised, that I haven't followed you, on soundcloud yet. :P
Okay, I just followed you. :D
Hi Brandystarbrite,

Thanks for your kind comment and for following me on soundcloud;

The level of the keyboards in a bit low on purpose, it reminds me the way Coxsone used to mix at Studio One. And since the tune is a sort of tribute to Studio One....
Okay cool.

Great sound! Haven't listened to reggae tunes for quite a while now and your track made me get back to what I once loved!

Ehyo amigo :D

the sound is clean, no worries, but personally, that's not what I'd like to put my voice on if I were an artist. And it's not the kind of reggae I like the most either. In short, it's my taste...

To help you improve, however:
- The lack of deep bass and instruments
- It's often the same "problem" that comes back with this kind of rather synthetic sound. Your sound sounds very "flat", and it's not at all the basis of reggae... ^^

For any reggae music enthusiast (like me, I admit ahah), there is a real lack of the natural instrument (at least a bass guitar, drums, and a copper instrument). It's really the minimal basis, to "do everything" with reggae).

Here's what I can say to enlighten you, my friend.

Note :
- I'm thinking about... If you can't do otherwise than use synthetic music (beatmaking on computer for example...), then, if you like hip-hop vibe, you can simply mix reggae and hip-hop with the sounds you have on hand (...)
- Hip-hop beat and a little reggae base a little more rhythmic and varied than in your current sound, it's a mix that combines very well! Personally, I listen to a lot of "reggae hip-hop".
- Here, to enlighten you, here are the kind of sounds that represent quite well what I want to talk to you about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-arcZwQX4I
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsVVErZ ... g&index=16
You should easily be able to create this kind of sound with few means (without having natural instruments...).

Here's the thing. I don't know if you wanted that kind of feedback, sorry. It comes from the heart anyway!

Good continuation amigo.
Peace ! (:
Hi T-Jeyrem,

Making music with LMMS is fine and I enjoy it, but it is not my first choice since I am musician (well almost: I play drums 8-) ) . But I moved quite far away from my birthplace and from all the musicians I know for decades. So it was LMMS or nothing...

Now that my new house is almost ready, the plan is to invite my friends (the bassman, the guitarist and the keyboards player) and record the tunes they prefer on my old Roland VS-880EX with real instruments (well almost since I use a Roland electronic drum set).

For the brass section, I met some members of a marching brass band in a nearby village, and it should be possible for them to come and record the brass tracks.

This should take place in 2020 if everything runs smoothly. In the meantime, I will keep on composing with LMMS since it is a great tool for that purpose.
