My first Drum&Bass. Feedback wanted!

Hello. This is my first DnB project finally after just making ambient and trance.
 https://clyp.it/3gkdoci1

I do not know how DnB structure works so... just worked out based on my existing knowledge. Also, most of the presets were manipulated from the trance synths I made/chose from pre made banks.

My first DnB song so I was kindly requesting for feedbacks. Thanks in advance~

Hi vortexsupernova,

That's a very nice track, and that melody and reese bass are just awesome. The structure is also nice you're doing good.

I think the only parts that can be improved are the kick and the snares. They sound muffled by the rest of the synths like we can only ear their low frequencies which causes a small lack of impact. The problem is that I have exactly the same issue when I do my DnB tracks and I still don't know how to solve this, so don't take my advice as an absolute truth. I'd say first you can try other kicks and snare samples that you can find everywhere on the internet legally for free. The native ones from lmms aren't suitable for DnB. Moreover I'd add to the snares need more reverb and a gain around 7k Hz to give them more space in higher frequencies. Your mix are much nicer than mine then it will probably fix it.

Cheers,
RD

Thank you very much :) yes, the kick is very troubling for me  I was planning to search for an external sample. The snare also feels muffled even it is excessively EQ-ed on higher frequencies. So thank you for recommending things to me :)

You can try this sample pack from skifonix, there're a few kicks and snares (link in the description): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Si--cCx ... Eg&index=3

However you have to keep in mind that the choice of kick and snare highly depends on your overall track especially in DnB. Then I cannot guarantee it will sound good on your track but as we say 100% of the lottery winner tried their luck. You can also try to layer them if you know how to do it.

Thank you! I downloaded a bunch of one shots and loops to study them as well, and all I can say is, yeah, it depends on the song. None of them has fitted to the sound design of my song

But I haven't tried yet the sample pack you gave me. I have so much to do in school. Thank you again, I will come back
