new to the forum + my stuff

Share and discuss your LMMS music projects here, and see what people think!
Hello!

I've been using LMMS as a hobby for about six months now. I am consistently amazed with how versatile the program is, and the work that I have seen in this forum is equally amazing.

I don't have much technical skill with the program yet, but I have been making songs and posting them on YouTube for fun. I would say that these are my three favorites so far:
here ; here ; and here

But overall, I have 27 'songs'. My goals are to start incorporating more real instruments, have more complex song structures, and find a way to have a cleaner sound.

Feedback would be appreciated but I'd also love to hear more about what projects you all are working on.

your tracks:
Really experimental with a jazzy wibe. Quite different from most other tracks -Maybe the instruments a bit too dominating over the percussion (especially 1. track), and you goes somewhat 'wild' in the end :)
Did you assign mixer-channels to everything?
Heres a tutorial for mixing:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuT_Ok6o5Dc
And there are some 70+ other tutorials on lmms with it. Maybe some zynAddSubFX (zasfx) can be of interest? And you are rigth. Zasfx is an amazing instrument!
Cool vibe. Some of the sounds are a bit loud (for example the clangy sounds on the third track around 1:30). The panning is cool (although a bit extreme at times). Otherwise it's pretty good. Like musikbear said, it sounds a bit jazzy.
Thank you both so much for the feedback! I agree with the points made and I am especially grateful for the tutorials, as I have not yet figured out how to use the mixer properly. I barely venture outside of the song editor as it is, so this is super helpful.
The first song, Fun with triple oscillator sounds like something from an old school SNES video game.
But, I have to agree with the others, certain parts of that music track were too loud.

The second one Super Snazzy REMASTER, I have to agree with musikbear and others, it does sound Jazzy.

The third one called Hmm is very dark and eerie sounding. Sounds like music in a horror movie.
Not my type of music.
But I would say, out of the 3 music tracks, this is the best made one. :)

Nice job. :)
Fun with triple oscillators: Have to say that it sounds a lot like some of my first songs. Pretty basic but had some interesting direction to it.

Super snazzy: THIS ONE IS HILARIOUS! I laughed so god damn hard when it started up. It sounds like it's super snazzy but in a sarcastic sort of way. It gets more serious through the rest but this one was so fun to listen to. Probably my favorite of them

Hmm: You really capture the eerieness in this one. The one guitar (might be the erazzor preset) gets really loud and clippy. It scared me a bit for the sheer volume but I just didn't like how distorted it sounded when it came in so loud. The ambient background noises, the lack of any normal sort of chords/scales, plus the frequency modulated notes made this one just so uneasy. Not even like a spooky, just unsettling. Reminds me of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYb9kSCkjE8 (the end is the scariest).

Also, you said you want to include more real instruments? There's a huge amount of things you can check out. VSTs and SoundFonts can get you some real nice sounding instruments. Samples are great for some instruments and also chopping up to make random percussion noises.

VSTs and Soundfonts:
DSK VSTs (all free): http://www.dskmusic.com/
Some good soundfonts to check out (I recommend Fluid, a bank of tons of stuff, some of it's good): https://musescore.org/en/handbook/soundfont
KVR Audio (a good repository of VST instruments and VST effects: http://www.kvraudio.com/

Samples:
You can use anything and chop it up for cool sounds.
For example: https://www.freesound.org/people/krb21/sounds/118619/
There's at least like 20 different distinct sounds you can use to make interesting percussion in here. I've used parts of this particular samle in 4 songs so far.
