newb question about loading VSTi with VeSTige

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Every time I try to load any VSTi with VeSTige, I get the error message "The VST-plugin E:/Program Files (x86)/LMMS 0.4.7/plugins/VST/mda Piano.dll could not be loaded for some reason. If it runs with other VST-software under Linux, please contact an LMMS-developer!"

Here is what I do exactly:

Load a VeSTige track into the song-editor window
Left-click on VeSTige in the song-editor window to open the GUI
Click on the green folder icon
Click on mda Piano.dll

I get this msg with any VSTi I try to load, not just mda Piano (although I tried that one first cause it was one of the VSTi known to work well with LMMS.) I use Windows 7 and downloaded the 64 bit version of LMMS.

Does anyone know what I'm missing? I imagine it's something very simple =/

afraid not simple..
Did you run 0.4.6 earlier?
Have you downloaded the release candidate or the dev?
Try the version here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/lmms/files/

This is a pretty important isue.
I dont have win7 nor do i have a 64 bit version (ofcause..)
For that rerason i cant test this problem.
Does anyone with win7 and the 64 bit version have the same problem??
Please answer here if you can load VSTige or have isues!
DO make SURE ets the 64bit release version..

Hi Musikbear,

I downloaded "lmms-0.4.7-win64.exe" and it was from the site you linked.

I haven't run any other version of LMMS.

Also, I would add that it doesn't crash the program or anything when I try to load a VSTi into Vestige - it just gives the error message. I also tried adding VSTi to vestige using the "send to active instrument-track" option in the My Computer tab, and get the same error message.

Googling the error message yeilds nothing useful =/ so I may be the only person with this problem which is why I think it is my computer un-savvy-ness rather than a larger issue.
I think i may have the 'solution' or at least an explanation for your problem.
Does you be any chance use the windows browser to open your project?
Apearently there is a bug in the file associated opening.
I can reproduce the bug on projects that are opend by double-click in windows-explorer. If i however uses the internal browsers and open the project from within lmms, the error is not there.
Was that the reason for your problem?

Hi Musikbear,

What is the windows browser? Do you mean the browser that comes up when you click My Computer? I've been using a desktop shortcut that I stole from the start menu to open LMMS, then opening projects that I want to work on from within LMMS, so I don't think that's the problem...although do you think moving LMMS's shortcut could mess it up? Thanks so much for your help.
What is the windows browser?
Windows explorer -eg opening the file by double-clicking a project in windows (asociated file opening)
I've been using a desktop shortcut that I stole from the start menu to open LMMS
I have that on my desktop also
do you think moving LMMS's shortcut could mess it up
No

Only thing that seems to cause this problem for me, is to open LMMS by double-clicking on a project-file in windows-explorer..

Unfoutunately it seems like you have done like you should..
Here is what I do exactly:
Load a VeSTige track into the song-editor window
Left-click on VeSTige in the song-editor window to open the GUI
Click on the green folder icon
Click on mda Piano.dll
One thing that you could try..
Load one of the VSTige dll that i know works -like synth1

MDApiano is on the list i know that.. :/
Thanks so much for your help.
You are welcome, but i doubt that this will fix your problem :/

Please repport back whether or not you can open synth1, i think this could be an serious issue.

Unfourtunately noone with win7 and the 64bit 0.4.7 version has responded

Does anyone have win7 and and the 64bit 0.4.7 version ???

BR.
I can confirm this problem.

I tested mda Piano.dll in Windows 7 (64-bit) using LMMS 0.4.6 (32-bit) then LMMS 0.4.7 (64-bit). For each of these tests, I received this error: The VST-plugin C:/Program Files (x86)/LMMS 0.4.6/plugins/mdaPiano/mda Piano.dll could not be loaded for some reason.

Also, I tested synth1 as well as several other VSTs and received the same error.
Thank you bcman! That concludes its a real bug.
BUT!
0.4.8 has just been announced! :D

Please repport back if this problem also exists in 0.4.8!

A lot of 0.4.7 bugs has been adressed in this new release.

Windows 7 (64-bit)
I tested LMMS 0.4.8 (32-bit) but still get the same error when loading vsts.

wooot 32bit version on win7-64 ALSO fails?!
Looks like a win7-64 serious bug!

I have xp and loading all kind of VSTige is no problem -However i CAN make 0.4.8 freeze if i drag a vst into the song-editor, and that did not happen with 0.4.7, that actually behaved very well in respect to vst.
With 0.4.8 i recommend the 'open in active instrument' aproach, just as it was the case in 0.4.6

-i have opend a new ticket on this problem
