I have started LMMS from the command line in order to capture some error message.
Here they are:

Error while reading.
Remote plugin did not connect.
Error while writing.
QProcess: Destroyed while process is still running.

Moreover, I've uninstalled 64bit wine and installed 32bit wine.
No change in the process.
What I recall from previous experience, is that lmms-fst-full package seems to me to be too skinny to actually make everything work.
I could be wrong, of course.

I did a fresh installation on new hardware.
Kubuntu 16.04 64bit + the suggested KXStudio repo.
Then I installed LMMS with vst support.
It still doesn't work with the very same error.

I have also reset the wine package in order to use the 32bit version, as the default setup was for 64 bit.
Reinstalled 32bit wine, lmms with vst support etc. etc.
NOPE.
Logs and error messages are too terse to understand:

The VST-plugin /home/support/Work/Musica/vst/SpicyGuitar_32.dll could not be loaded for some reason.
If it runs with other VST-software under Linux, please contact an LMMS-developer!

"For some reason!"The point is that I have no idea on how to run that plugin with another VST software and even whether there's any.
As of now I am completely stuck!

I have the same issue with VeSTige here (+ ZASFX GUI problem). Here's my output from terminal (for VeSTige)

I also noticed, that the same error happens, when I try to load ZynAddSubFX GUI (here's the output for ZASFX):

Then I had to destroy the RemoteZynAddSubFX process via task manager

remote plugin died! invalidating now.

I don't know, what's the cause of these issues.

Re-resolved.
Somehow I had enabled a setting "Synchronize plugin with host playback".
Once disabled everything went back to normal operations.

This solved my problems. Great! Now I can load VSTs again. And, I also had problems with the ZynAddSubFx GUI not loading. Both problems solved. I am using Ubuntu 16.04 lmms-full-vst from KXstudio repos
