[SOLVED for Ubuntu 16.04] VST under Linux NOT! SOLVED for other ubuntu

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hi all.
I am willing to experiment with VST plugins.
I am running LMMS v1.1.1 under 64bit Kubuntu Linux 14.04 installed from KXStudio repo.
I downloaded "DVS Guitar" from here as suggested from the wiki.
Then I copied the DLL into the vst plugin directory configured in LMMS.
I added a VeSTige instrument and tried to load that DLL from it. The message is this:
The VST-plugin /home/user/Desktop/Work/Music/vst/DVS Guitar.dll could not be loaded for some reason.
If it runs with other VST-software under Linux, please contact an LMMS-developer!
The same happens with three other different VSTs.
Is it a problem with this very build or something else?

I just tried that vst, it works for me on openSUSE (linux)

Do you have wine installed ?

Sure I do. Comparing SuSe with kubuntu+kxstudio is a mistake in my opinion.
I think my installation doesn't have full VST support.
You will be surprised how often a solution for one distro, will work for other distro's too.
I learned that from the steam beta. ( and I have fixed things with Ubuntu, Fedora and Arch solutions )
There are of course differences, sudo apt get what ever, won't work on openSUSE, it will be something like sudo zipper what ever.

You could try to start LMMS from the terminal ( command line) and see if you get use-full errors.
Prob by just typing lmms, on the comandline.

Post the output on these forums.
Found!
In Kubuntu/KXStudio there are two variant for lmms: one is called ... "lmms - Linux Multimedia Studio", the other one is called "lmms-vst-full - Linux Multimedia Studio - full VST support using Wine".
I installed the latter and the VST plugins "magically"(tm) started working.
Congratz :)
Bumpy. :)

Interesting.
Nice to see that you found a way to solve that problem.
Congrats. 8-)
Just in case, anyone needs help with Vst's and Linux.
Bumpy. 8-)
Hi all (again)!
With 16.04 I haven't been so lucky.
I did an upgrade (a fresh install actually) and added the kxstudio repos.
Not only Installing lmms-vst-full doesn't install LMMS (it's a 195Kb installation!) but even adding the lmms packages (which is a 100+Mb) it doesn't work.
I do have wine installed (it's version 1.6.2) but the VST plugins are said to be non working.
The version of LMMS has no VST support so I do need to use kxstudio's binaries.
Any hint?
