Where are the files?

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hi,

I have searched high and low across the internet and this forum looking for the answer to one simple question, and I can't find it anywhere. Where are the .pat files and .sf2 files for lmms? I couldn't find them in /usr/share/lmms/ and that is the one lead I had. I've begun to think that trying to find the files to a linux program is more difficult than trying to find a star knowing only its shape.

Moreover, could you update the wikis for patman and sf2 so that they indicate where to find their soundfont files?

UPDATE: I found the patman files at /usr/share/midi/

You know about the wiki, thats great, but the text in the wiki would be something like "The files are on the net"
In LMMS we cant bundle neither sf2 or GUS-patches (PATman).
GUS files are in most cases commercial, only some few, and not all that good, exists as free-ware. In fact PATman is mostly kept in LMMS for backward compatibility reasons
SF2 files are next to the same in respect to bundling, so you need to find and dl these files yourself. There is however the section Useful-resources in wiki, where many of the best are listed, with links.
UPDATE: I found the patman files at /usr/share/midi/
This confuses me. there is no GUS-patches in official lmms releases. Do you have yours from our official source?

Wait a second...

oh! I get it now. It's the Debian package freepats. It's under "suggested" when you install lmms. When I install a program using aptitude, I always install the suggested packages along with it, so I never realized that freepats wasn't part of lmms. Explains how I couldn't find it on my Slackware OS.

Alright then, off to install freepats for Slackware. But thanks for the note on better sounds being on the internet. And thanks for pointing out that the .pat files I found weren't included with lmms. I would have been chasing my tail for days trying to find those files on Slackware.
