Negotiating vertical keyboard note row display in piano roll

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
EDIT: I think I solved it by checking the "enable note options in piano roll" option in edit-settings-general. I don't know how a person can use the piano roll with it unchecked, maybe I'm missing something, but I don't know why it wouldn't come checked by default. Anyhoo...

Hello and thanks in advance for any assistance. I'm new to LMMS and have a basic question. I started making some music a couple days ago (with absolutely no experience how to even read music, mind you) on a browser-based synthesizer software. You can easily see my music, and more importantly (see below) the software used, here:

http://onlinesequencer.net/585431

After some research I discovered this browser-based software is quite limited so I got LMMS and now I'm trying to bring my song into LMMS. Importing it as a midi file doesn't work for some reason, that's not important since I have to learn how to compose the individual notes so I'll just enter each one manually (there aren't many) and continue from there. The problem is that on the browser-based software, as shown in the above link, there's a vertical keyboard showing the different note rows, and in LMMS' piano roll there's similar note row indication except the note values appear totally different. In LMMS I can only see, for instance, the C notes (between the C notes are presumably the rest, but unmarked). And the amount of notes between, for instance, C5 and C6 on the browser-based software is 13 while on LMMS it's 8 so it's not a direct correspondence.

My question is why are only the C notes indicated in LMMS and why don't the two sets of notes correspond? Keep in mind that I don't know how to read music and I don't know anything about notes or the order in which notes are typically presented. Ideally there would be some way of translating between the two sets of notes so that I can transfer what I've already written. Also I'm trying various soundfonts and I just don't understand why I can't access the same range of notes as I was able to on the apparently inferior web-based software. It seems I don't have access to all the possible notes that LMMS has to offer.

Any help is really appreciated! :)
I think it works on the assumption that most people with any interest in music probably know roughly what a piano keyboard looks and sounds like. That's why there are actually 12 notes from C to C (count the squares) and some are white and some are black, like in that software you were previously using. But the black "keys" are shorter than the white...like on a piano keyboard. But I like the note names switched on too.

Now exactly what "soundfonts" are you using and which notes can't you access? It may be that whatever you're now using is more realistic and won't let you play notes in e.g. a trumpet sound that aren't possible to play on a real trumpet. Without some details it's hard to say. LMMS itself covers the whole range from C0 to C9 but not every instrument can play the full range.

About the tessitura, there are different conventions. For example, in the French convention, La 440 Hz is denoted La3. In LMMS, this is La4.

I can wholehearted recommend the pages in our useful resources:

Well i think we also need to fix that.
You could dl the program AnvilStudio
http://www.anvilstudio.com/
See if you can import the midi, and then export to MIDI0
I will also be willing to convert the midi, just let me know

Yes! Thats is exactly correct
and why don't the two sets of notes correspond?
That one i cant understand.
A piano is divided in octaves 8 whole-notes (whites) between the C-note, and two notes with octave distance are unisone-notes
You can learn about these basics from the aforementioned resurces, and you may like to watch my video-tutorials on the subject:

In lmms you can either use your computer-keyboard, or a external MIDI-keyboard. The computer-keyboard has this divisions:

So you have 2 octaves at disposal

which 2 That depends on how you set your base-note

:) its a very simple system, and there are many memory-tricks for it too

That was a long answer.. I will lastly recommend my lmms-rookie-guide. The link is in my signature
Thanks for all the replies, I sure am glad to see there's so much community support!

To be perfectly clear the situation has been fully resolved, as I attempted to briefly edit into my original post. The thing was that I couldn't make all the notes before enabling note options in piano roll, but afterwards I could as additional note rows appeared, so it's all good, Perhaps there's another way to access those seemingly otherwise hidden rows, which could explain the confusion, but I was unable to find it, even after searching through the wiki.

Thanks for the greeting, links and useful info!
