LMMS 1.0.0 - Linux Mint session freezes

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hey guys,
Even though I have been using LMMS for quite some time now and I really love it, I have never posted anything here (as I am just using LMMS for my own entertainment and it usually works great). So please be gentle if I seem stupid. I did however try and google the problem to death before posting it here.
Unfortunately, in my current installation LMMS frequently causes problems: When loading a project, saving, importing a sample or basically anything else that involves a loading bar, it freezes my whole computer session (not every time, but like once every three to four times) - I am able to move the mouse but NOTHING else works. The only way is to either give the computer a hard shutdown or (as I recently realized) pressing CTRL+ALT+Backspace to end the current user session. However, this still leads to data loss in all programs that are open at that point. Before it crashes, LMMS usually gives me a taste of its own language by scrambling my ears with weird, computery noises. This used to happen before but without the crashing - back then I could just restart the program (and sometimes had to renice pulseaudio).
Due to the whole system freezing, I can't even give you an error log or anything else useful.

I am currently using LMMS 1.0.0. on Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon.
On a sidenote: I saw that there should be a newer LMMS version, but it doesn't seem to be available for linux? Is that correct?

I would be really thankful for any help! I love working (or rather playing) with LMMS but it is annoying as hell to always lose everything that wasn't saved.

No there is stable 1.1.3 also for linux, and also several PR versions
You find those here:
https://lmms.io/download/#linux
But the one i strongly recommend is the KX

http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net/Repositories#Ubuntu

Have you tried that already?
Also we have a page with hints and tips for linux VST-issues:
http://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Wor ... _.26_Linux

I hope the KXrep. will do it for you, otherwise you need to focus on WINE and version.
If you still fail please post your:
* lmms version
* hardware specification (ram & soundcard is the most important)
* Latency setting
* lmms sound device chosen
* a screenshots of error-state -if any oddness appear

Are you sure it isn't 1.0.3 ? I'm also on Linuxmint 17.3 and that's what's in the repo. The are versions of 1.0.0 in the Ubuntu repos that are badly broken so I wouldn't use it.

We'll be shipping linux binaries in the AppImage format and the latest build is (I think..) this one:
https://github.com/tresf/lmms/releases/ ... 4.AppImage

I recommend using the 1.2 beta releases.
