Time signature changing

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
So im making a remix with signature 4/4. Pretty standard. Then, it changes it to 9/8 and then back to 4/4. Later in the song it changes to 11/8.

There is absolutely no reason this should happen. I have one automation to keep the track at 124 bpm but disabling it does nothing. I tried using automation to keep it at 4/4 but it also does nothing.

It's not really that serious but its annoying and I should mention it.
Have you checked for the presence of global automation on your time sig. ?

- right click on the numerator of the time sig and click on Edit global automation of the piece,
- right click on the denominator of the time sig and click on Edit global automation of the piece.

Oh wow... Thanks! Never knew that was a thing. LMMS still surprises me.

Yes, it's a well hidden function ;)
Be aware that while you are playing your song in the song editor, each time the time signature changes all the bar numbers will change including the ones for sections in a different time signature to the current one.

You need to plan all your time signature changes on paper by deciding on one of your time signatures and calculating bar positions for each change of time signature for the whole piece. You then need to edit the time signature automation while it is in the same time signature that you used for your calculations.
This is actually quite complicated but can be done.

If you don't do this you will end up with gaps and overlaps in sections of music.

If you are changing time signature a lot it is best to compose fewer longer sections rather than a lot of short sections otherwise problems are more common.

Be aware ..
First i actually meant to say "Good point!"
But then i felt that something was wrong. LMMS has downstram persistent Automation! This problem can therefore not occour! -any more, that is, because this downstram persistent Automation, is relatively new!
Therefore i wonder if you janika, got an old version installed?
If you do not have LMMS 1.1.2rc8 installed I recommend you to upgrade!

*If you have made anything ...Back-up your own stuff
*Un-install current installation
*(re)move the config dot-file
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=LM ... h_Settings
*download a fresh new installation-pack either x32 or x64 of

32 Bit: https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/releases/d ... -win32.exe
64 Bit: https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/releases/d ... -win64.exe
*re-install as administrator and grant all users access
Linux-users need the AppImage on the Linux-tab!

Besides that, since you are new in Forum

Hi musikbear
Thanks for your comments
I have LMMS 1.2.0 Rc7, I'm running this on Ubuntu linux.
I will investigate upgrading to the later version.

I actually love LMMS and ZynAddSubfx. It has become a big part of my life over the past 6 months.

I have been reading the forums but only to self help the learning procedure.

I spent so long yesterday altering a piece that was all written in 4/4 to swap sections of it to 7/8 time. It took a while before I realised the bar numbers were changing depending whether the play curser had just played in 8 or 7 beats, so setting up the automation was almost impossible!

I may not understand, but would this https://youtu.be/sIToz0LIRIM not be ok?
It looks odd, but the output is fine i think?
Is yours different?
Maby i need to see the file..

btw, not any real difference between rc7 and rc8, så you dont need to re-install

I have been asked how i specifically made this:
there are *two* automation tracks
1) The time-signatures *Numerator* value
2) The time-signatures *De-numerator* value
To rebuild this you
*Insert the two automation tracks
* set the time-signature
* drag the *Numerator* value into 1. automation track
* in same position drag the *De-Numerator* value into 2. automation track
*Extend the span of the two automation track-blocks so whole 1. wanted time-signature is covered#
Move play-head to position inside 2. wanted time-signature
* set the time-signature
* drag the *Numerator* value into 1. automation track in this new position
* in same position drag the *De-Numerator* value into 2. automation track
*Extend the span of the two automation track-blocks so whole 1. wanted time-signature is covered as before
Repeat as needed
The *important* thing is not to drag new Numerator / De-Numerators into song-editor *before* you have moved the play-head!

#It not *necessary* to drag it to cover the whole span, but it look more logical if you do

Should i make a video covering this method?
