Want a sound but have no idea how to get it

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
So Im making a track and i want a sound, the sound you get it alot of basic EDM tracks before the main part of the song, where there is a slow steady sort of whooshy sounding small buildup, like the noise you hear at exactly 30 secs into this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBef5aozTYY .
What is a sound like that called?
And how can i make one? Is there a VST which i can use, or a setting inside of LMMS
Thanks for the help :)

Welcome to the forum James9 !

Yes, thats a heavily reverbed crash that also is sidechained.
The reverb gives it the long tail. You can use the Plate-plugin with great succes for that!
Sidechaining is done in a lot of ways, you can find my approach to it here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntzWiufjkko
But for just an effect, it could be made as simple as a LFO variation:

Thanks for the advice, I have installed a reverb VST, but now i dont know how to make it take effect. What do i do next?
Hi James9.
Okay, here's what to do.

1) Go to the buttons toolbar, located on the left hand side of the screen.
And click on the top button, called instrument plugins.
All of lmms' internal plugins, are located there.

2) Drag in Lmms' vestige plugin.
Vestige is a container plugin, used to bring in 3rd party vst's.

3) Click on the green folder icon and navigate/find the vst.

Note: Some 3rd party vst's, don't work too well in lmms.
So feel free to check out, the lmms vst wiki list, for ones that do work.

If the reverb effect you installed, does work well in lmms, feel free to tell us
so it can be added, to the ever expanding lmms vst wiki list. 8-)

I have installed a reverb VST
one of the issues we have in lmms, is that vst-effects does not always work at all. Usually ~90% of vst-instruments works fine, but ~10% of vst-effects will work ;´|
That is an issue that is being worked on!

But i think that you need to read:
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Wo ... Ts_effects

And maby also this:
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=In ... The_FX_tab

-then follow Brandys instructions
If your VST-effect does not show up in the list, then you have the dll in the wrong folder. It must be in your LADSPA folder
If you find it impossible, then chime in, because that would indicate that we need a video tut on this.

It all worked, thanks for the help
the plugins i used were OrilRiver and ReverbSolo if you want to add them to your list :)
