How to make an EDM lead?

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
How would I use the tools available in LMMS (without a prepaid music starter pack) to make an EDM style lead? I tried to use Zyn, but the 'Show GUI' button is greyed out and won't open. What do I do?

Hi, Welcome to the forum GunnarSkale !
Here are all important links:

-A few rules and useful forum instructions

There are a couple of things in your post. first:
How would I : make an EDM style lead?
That is ambiguous.
Find a video or soundclip online, with the exact instrument sound you are looking for. -Link to it!
You need to add exact timestamps for where the wanted sound starts and less important -ends
Like @2:32 -> 2:55

But this next thing is important:
I tried to use Zyn, but the 'Show GUI' button is greyed out and won't open. What do I do?
Please post your:
* OS (+service-pack-version)
* lmms version
* a screenshots of error-state

Are you using mac? :)
Because if you are, there is a known bug in Lmms for mac,
where pressing Zyn's GUI button, would cause Lmms to crash.
So that's why, the GUI button was deliberately greyed out.
Because the Lmms devs, were concerned with the well being of peoples macs.

Okay, thanks! The EDM style I'm focusing on as of late is Hardstyle, an example of the lead(s) I'd like to learn to make in LMMS are in this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1-DEJQZB8M at: 00:13 to 00:20 and 09:06 to 09:14. While the uploader of this video gave a brief wave tutorial and all, I'd like a bit of help learning with LMMS.

For the ZynAddSubFX error, I am on a Mac (macOS High Sierra as the operating system) on LMMS 1.1.3.

A Screenshot of my perspective would be this:

(If that doesn't take you to the image, please inform me)

Yeah it doesn't because you're using your computer file path, so only you could see the image. One solution is to post on a hoster like Imgur and then to put the link that imgur gives to you.

...Actually
A better solution would be to r e a d the post i linked you to, where i teach you how..
AND tell you how to use quotes properly! Witch is n o t the way you did here..

Well he teach what to do, the thing is, you need an instrument that has these features that he uses. ZynAddSubFX zasfx has it, but you cant edit in MAC
Can you get a VST-host-like program for MAC?
Then you could do like i do here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrrl3OiiJvM
BUT in VST-host!
The problem is that in lmms, the only other instrument that has portamento, is LB302, and that has other limitations, f.i. no detune.
Best would be Synth1, but you cant in MAC.
For the ZynAddSubFX error, I am on a Mac w. 1.1.3
MAC is only partly supported. If you have another pc, with either win or linux, i will recommend you to use lmms on those, otherwise you can try the newest experimental MAC RC:
https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/releases/d ... c10.13.dmg
or
https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/releases/d ... ac10.8.dmg
depd. on your MAC version

But imo lmms does not work in MAC

Yep, Roxas is right, it did not take us to the image.
But as he said, imgur is a better solution to upload pics. :D
And don't forget to read the links, that musikbear provided.
They are very useful.

So you are using mac, just as I suspected.
That would explain, why Zyn's GUI was greyed out.

Note: I re-edited my original comment above, explaining zyn's gui problem.
Sorry if my original reply above, did not make much sense before. :)
I know almost nothing about macs, besides that the operating system is more like Linux which I use, then Windows.

One thing to try.
Install Wine and try to run ZynaddsubFX as an outside vst.

The problem is to get wine set up right.
I see allot of people having issues on Linux, with that.

A Mac forum should be able to help with wine though.

( do not try to run the lmms version but download the zynaddsubFX vst, for this )

http://zynaddsubfx.sourceforge.net/download.html

You want the windows version of that vst.

I see there is also a mac version of zynaddsubfx, but that wont be usefull for lmms as far as I understand things.
