"<project> seems to contain errors" message when opening

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Good evening, folks.

So, I was working on a tune when LMMS all of a sudden froze and drove me to restart the computer. When I now try to open the project, I encounter the following error:

Code: Select all

filename.mmpz seems to contain errors and therefore can't be loaded.

A back-up exists. Both it and the file are not empty (their size is 228.9 KB). I have read some discussions about this issue, but none of the suggestions I've seen thus far have worked, and the situations I read about do not appear to apply to me.

Besides reports about project files having a size of 0 when this happens, I've noticed that VST plug-ins have been a frequent culprit in these cases. However, although I had installed VST plug-ins not long before LMMS froze, they were all functional and presented no technical issues whatsoever. I reviewed the "5 points" that one should touch on to make sure that a VST is functional.

I tried to open the back-up by removing the .bak extension, but this triggered the same error again. I also tried changing the *.mmpz extension to just *.mmp, but this, too, yields the same result.
