Drum sounds, how to make them

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hello everybody, this is my first message here, sorry for my bad English, this is not my native language.
I just installed LMMS, I'm a total newbie since this is the first DAW I try to learn.
As a start I tried to create a drum pattern with the beat/bassline editor:
I tried by using the Kicker drum plugin, by using the internal drum samples and by opening a Hydrogen project wich I already had. None of them sound like drums at all, all I get is some weird oscillators sound.
Moreover, I tried to open one of the songs examples (Demos and Cool songs) and none of them does play correctly, I always get those weird synth sounds and no drums.
Anybody would be so kind to help me figure out what is the problem and fix it?
Thank you very much! :-)
What LMMS version are you using ?

Are you on Linux or Windows ?

If hydrogen and lmms do not sound right, I suspect some sound set up issue.

Hi.
I'm running both LMMS (1.1.3) and Hydrogen (0.9.6) on Windows Vista (I know... I know :P )
Hydrogen sounds perfecty, the pattern only sounds weird when imported in LMMS.
I can't figure out if it's some issue like missing sound libraries or wrong hardware/driver settings, or other.

I guess that you do not have SDL as your sound-devise :

Beside that, i would try how RC6 runs on Vista.
Vista was notorious bad, maby MS' worst OS, but first check sound-devise, and then report back
Thank you very much musikbear !!
I switched sound devise to SDL and now it works perfectly!
Yes Vista is quite bad, I'm going to install Linux instead, as soon as I'm ready (lots of backups to do...)

Thank you again for your help and for the useful links!! :-)
