Unable to add instruments

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hello, I wanted to try LMMS for making chiptune music but I instantly ran into a problem that makes it a complete non-starter. I can't add instruments. The ones loaded by default seem to work fine, I can even load and listen to the demos, but whenever i drag a new instrument from the left panel, I can't drop it into the song editor. No matter where I hover it, the cursor turns into a stroked out circle and releasing the mouse button does nothing.

I'm trying this on Arch Linux with Wayland and Gnome. LMMS version is 1.2.0-rc7, Linux kernel version is 4.19.12-arch1-1-ARCH.

Please help. :( I've been looking all around the web for someone having this problem and I feel like I'm the only one who ever encountered it. Reinstalling LMMS does nothing, running Gnome on Xorg also doesn't help.

We have stopped supporting all various distros of linux, instead there is now a next to foolproof AppImage that you need to install:

The AppImage file you linked ran no problem for me and it seems to be unaffected by the issue with adding new instruments. Thank you!
Now please excuse me, I've got some badass chiptune to make.
