LMMS freezing upon load of VST

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hi there. I've been using LMMS for a long time now and never really have many issues with it, but I'm having my first big one and need some help. Recently, LMMS has been freezing when I try to load a VST instrument file. It will stay frozen for as long as I let it go on for, but I did find out that if I go to my task manager (Windows 10) and terminate "remote VST," the freeze stops and no VST is loaded.

I downloaded the beta version for the first time to see how it would work and installed it into a completely different folder, the same thing happens. I have a lot of samples and VSTs in the regular LMMS folder, so I don't know if I would loose those if I uninstalled to reinstall or if I have to move them. Thanks for offering any help in advance!

Hi there.

Hi, Welcome to the Forum AlaanDavis !

-A few rules and useful forum instructions

Recently, LMMS has been freezing when I try to load a VST instrument file.
Two things here
1) You say A vst!
Does that mean, that you have ONE specific VST that does not load, and most other loads just fine.
itc. What is the name of the VST
OR
Does every VST fail!

2) You say
Recently, LMMS has been freezing when I try to load a VST instrument file.
Does that mean that you have been able to load the failing VST?
OR
Have it never been loaded?
I have a lot of samples and VSTs in the regular LMMS folder, so I don't know if I would loose those if I uninstalled to reinstall or if I have to move them.

When dealing with software-updates, it is always recommended that you make backups of your own stuff! That goes for all and any software, also LMMS.
But normally, LMMS does not remove user-items..
However yje correct way is to:
*Back-up your own stuff
*Un-install current installation
*(re)move the config dot-file
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=LM ... h_Settings
*download a fresh new installation-pack x64 of
LMMS 1.2.0 RC7 Orange buttons!
https://lmms.io/download/#windows
64 Bit: https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/releases/d ... -win64.exe
*re-install as administrator and grant all users access
Thank you for the introduction and reply! I wasn't able to use any VST without that happening. I was able to backup my plugins, VSTs, etc. for an uninstall and reinstall which solved the issue! Good to know for anyone else with that particular situation.
