Trouble importing

I'm having trouble importing new instruments/effects etc...

It says I need to convert files to MIDI using another software but as far as I can tell the files are already recognised as MIDI.

Is there a free file converter that will convert files to MIDI? I've already check for some but they don't seem to include MIDI.

Or maybe the problem is something else.

'midi' is not just midi. several sub-formats exists.

anvil-studio (free), and try if your midi can be imported to anvil. then save in anvil and use in lmms.

I tried downloading Anvilstudio but it's not working. I think I need to buy something else to get it to work but can't really afford anything cause I'm not working just now.

I'm really liking LMMS but could really do with more instruments and effects

If you have a midi-file that cant be opend in anvil, then its not a genuine midi-file, and i would advice you not to use it. It could very well be that someone has injected malicious code in the file, or perhaps renamed some other filetype 'midi'. For that reason it would not be recognized a a valid midi-file.
Where did you get these midi-files from?
