Automating VST fx knobs

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hello all . . .

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere - but I couldn't find it., sorry . . .

Here's my 'problem'.
I'm using a VST effect (an EQ package) and I'd like to automate one of the knobs - but they aren't available to be 'dragged and dropped' into an automation window.

If I use the 'Vestige' plugin to load the VST, and click on the 'spanner' icon, then the knobs are all there, and can be automated without problem.

But the 'Vestige' plugin is loaded as an 'instrument' - not an effect.
How can I incorporate the 'Vestige' plugin in an FX chain, so that I can automate the effect?

Many thanks (for what is probably a repeat) answer.

No that is wrong!
An EQ should be loaded as an effect. Place your eq.dll in the folder defined as
your VST-plugins-directory- (second from top)

Then you should get the new dll in the effect-list, and then just click on the controls button

Thanks MusicBear . . .

But, I probably didn't explain myself properly . . .
Yes, the effect is in the correct directory, and loads perfectly and works, no problem.
But only 'manually' . None of the control knobs will drag into an automation track.

But . . . if I load the .dll via 'Vestige' (and click on the 'spanner' icon) then I can automate any of the knobs. But it's now classed as an 'Instrument' - and, try as I might, I have found no way to get it working as an effect.

In other words, it works perfectly as a manually controlled effect - and also perfectly as an automated 'Instrument' - but I need it as an automated 'effect'.

Of cause only LMMS-'knobs' can be dragged and automated, so you must get a LMMS-knob-collection to appear.
Lets do that with the VST-EQ names NyquestEQ
The First thing you already has done is to place the dll in your VST-pluginfolder -Good
I will insert it on default 3oC
So i click FX-tab
Browse to Nyquest
Selects it
If i have understood you correctly All of this works for you too?
So in the DLL-UI click on the wrench-button in the red circle

That creates the LMMS-dial-array, that you see under the angled red arrow.
The dial in the blue circle can be dragged into an automation track

But you do not get an array of dials?
If the above does not work, then the VST does not work in lmms
Thanks again MusikBear . . .

I hadn't even noticed the 'spanner' icon in the loaded effect window !
Yes, it works! ( it's a very useful eq by the way, called 'ColourEQ' )
Best regards, MG
