MIDI Output for Kirnu

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hi!

I began my journey with LMMS just recently. Particularly, I am interested in creating Synthwave music. I watched many videos about various plugins and I found Kirnu very useful so I wanted to try it. Unfortunately, this plugin could not make any sound and after some research, I found out that I need MIDI Output for it to work. The only MIDI Output I had was Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth and switching it on enabled sounds for Kirnu. The thing is it is only a piano key, nothing similar to what I saw in YouTube videos showing how Kirnu sounds. I tried to find more MIDI Outputs and after a long time, I found CoolSoft MIDIMapper, which provides the same piano sound.

What are other MIDI Outputs that would help Kirnu produce my desired "synthwavish" sounds? Or maybe it is me doing something wrong? I am new to creating music in DAWs so now I am just learning.

I am using:
Windows 10
LMMS ver. 1.2.1
Arto Vaarala Kirnu

That is not going to be easy to use in lmms. In fact that pluging seams to be a piano-roll
I made a tutorial on using sequencers in general, and this pluging would have to be used like that too, but then we have the variations..
For that you need FIRST!!! to make sure that your kuurnu-plugin can pass the five-point-test
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Wo ... t_VST_test
If it does not, then LMMS cant use it at all!
That why '5-point' is an absolute MUST
Check that out and if it passes, then you need to make it work like this:

Let us know the outcome :)
I did a little bit more research so I can more clearly explain how Kirnu works.

Kirnu cannot produce any sound on its own and it always needs an additional plugin that can produce sounds. This plugin must be a MIDI Input while Kirnu must be a MIDI Output. Kirnu converts sound that the plugin produces.

I tried to do the five-point-test but I am not sure if I did it correctly. Every point should refer to Kirnu, but my Kirnu does not take sounds from the MIDI Input plugin I want but only from Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth or CoolSoft MIDIMapper because these are the only MIDI Inputs I have on my list. I am pretty sure that when I connect Kirnu to any MIDI Input, I will be able to pass the five-point-test.

I saw videos where people used FL Studio, Reaper, Logic, Ableton and in every example, the scheme repeats. They connect Kirnu to other plugins through which sound comes out. I really believe that LMMS is also able to work with it because Kirnu produces sounds for me (piano key), just not those that I need.

I also saw someone going through MIDI Settings in VeSTige (piano keys symbol) and using MIDI Channels. It was not associated with Kirnu but I wanted to give it a try. Unfortunately, setting input and output channels does not work as well in this case.

What else can be done?

! Ahh
Then this is not an instrument VST-plugin at all -It is an Effect VST-plugin!
Those need to be associated to a specific instrument/preset, on this items FX-tab!
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Wo ... Ts_effects
First you must copy the folder with Kiirnu to you LADSPA folder. This is where you currently (default) has to place your effects, Then you open the preset or you insert an empty instrument, and open the FX-tab
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=In ... The_FX_tab
Click Add-effect, and hopefully Kiirnu pops up as an option, load the dll.
Now the signals from the preset goes through Kiirnu, and you should be able to manipulate kiirnu as in the video..
Should, because VST-effects are often build with a tool-kit "Maize Sampler-software", and those FX-plugins does not work in LMMS! They does not comply to the correct standard -afaik.
Let us know the outcome :)
Sorry that it took nearly 2 months to reply!

Sadly, this doesn't work. I put Kirnu in ...\LMMS\plugins\ladspa but I cannot find Kirnu in the "Add effect" window. I tried to place it in the main LMMS folder, in ...\LMMS\plugins\, and even in the documents lmms folder. Looks like LMMS cannot find it? What is interesting, is that when I tried to delete Kirnu from the LMMS directory, I had an error saying it couldn't be deleted because LMMS was currently running. I don't know if it is because all of the files are undeletable while the program is running or because Kirnu is actually somewhere working in the program but invisible.
Fortunately, I found some other great working VSTplugins so the case with Kirnu isn't urgent, however, if you have any other solutions, I'm ready to test it ;)

does not work
Right..... i will experiment, but i think this Kiirnu is a kind of Carla-bay, but i will see if i can come up with something

But im afraid that i told you to do something wrong
The dll of VSTeffects, should not be in your LADSPA folder /brain-fart -sorry
All VST-effects files belongs in the folder you have defined as your VSTs-plugin-folder

Dropping out of this kirnu issue, because it is not a free-ware plugin. There is only a demo available, and that can be limited in functionality so any non-functional features could be caused by feature-blockage
