I appear to have the exact same issue as
måns. Same error dialog, very similar system, and pretty much the same fixes attempted with no luck. I even thought it was maybe a QuickTime problem, as I saw some files being installed that had "qt" in them — so I installed the latest version of QT, uninstalled and reinstalled LMMS; noticed I had QT Lite installed, so uninstalled both that and the actual QT installation, uninstalled & reinstalled LMMS; installed several versions of the C++ runtime libraries from Microsoft's website; and tried both 64-bit and 32-bit LMMS installs of the latest version (1.1.3), v1.1.0, and v1.0.99. Oh, and I also tried running the 32-bit version in "compatibility mode" (as Windows XP, SP3). I have full administrator privileges, btw. Nothing worked. Got the same error message (as seen in
måns' screenshot above) every time.
I
was able to install the 32-bit version of LMMS on my laptop, which is running a dual install of Windows XP and Linux Ubuntu (both versions worked like a charm there). But the laptop is slow as beans, with a (relatively) tiny screen, so I'd rather not have to run it there. (For a brief moment, I considered installing a Linux partition on this computer, too — but honestly, I've got enough stuff on this thing already!
)
One other thing I was wondering: could this possibly be a Java issue? I disabled Java on my main computer last year after hearing all sorts of bad things about its security problems.
