What is your operating system ?
Vst do not work on mac os.
On Linux you need to install wine, for vst to work in LMMS.
yes as Gps says your OS is important. Linux needs WINEDefenestrationDude wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 6:51 pmI am unable to load Synth1 after following the instructions for it. I cannot tell if it's simply slow to load or not, however, as there is no error popup and the program still responds normally whenever I attempt. I am using version 1.2.1 of LMMS and version 1.13 of Synth1.
Update, having downloaded MDA-Piano and followed the video instructions on how to load it, VeSTige still doesn't seem to react in any way. I can navigate to a DLL for a VST, but open attempting the load it the file browser closes and nothing else changes.musikbear wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 4:14 pmyes as Gps says your OS is important. And MAC does not support VST
You should also do a standard test to make sure VST works
Get MDA-Piano http://mda.smartelectronix.com/synths.htm
It is very small in size, and you can just copy its dll to your VST-folder. Further its a quite good piano-instrument, so it is a win win
Lets know the outcome
Here is a video about general VST usage:

That wont do. "Program Files" is a protected folder, and Windows dont like users who try to use it. You can receive really 'interesting' warnings from windows, if you try:DefenestrationDude wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 1:34 pmVeSTige seems to be opening into C:\Program Files instead of any folder which is directly associated with LMMS,
Yah... it is a topic of debate..I can't find any settings to change the directory for VSTs
Sorry for the late reply, but having checked and tried this (putting the vst .dll files directly into a single subfolder in my documents/lmms/samples subfolder, and then setting that as the directory for vsts in the settings, still doesn't seem to have any effect. If the vsts are loading, they're still doing so more slowly than it takes to load lmms itself, and if not they're failing silently. I'm also still not sure if this is a problem with LMMS itself, or with my Windows installation.musikbear wrote: ↑Sat Feb 06, 2021 12:58 amThat wont do. Guess who My IT-administrator happens to be...........

I favour a dedicated folder for VST, but we have no consensus.
The reason is that some peeps that uses lmms, also uses many other type of programs, that also uses VSTs.
They prefer to have all VSTs in a folder outside LMMS, and share its content with all the user-programs.
Atm, what actually works the best, is to make a subfolder in your Samples-folder, and place all the VSts dll's in that folder. The folder Samples is created with extended search options. Try that!

My guess then is that your setup-file is flawed.DefenestrationDude wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 9:01 pmSorry for the late reply, but having checked and tried this (putting the vst .dll files directly into a single subfolder in my documents/lmms/samples subfolder, and then setting that as the directory for vsts in the settings, still doesn't seem to have any effect. ATM you need to remember where you have your VST-instruments. Then after you clicked the folder-icon, browse to that folder and load the VST by name.DefenestrationDude wrote: ↑Sun Mar 07, 2021 7:54 amI just found something looking around: my vsts are all showing up as effects that i can add to other vsts or the effects rack; they will show their control panel if i do this, but they still won't actually load in vestige properly.
