How do I use "VST" instruments that come in .mse files

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.

Just the usual, e.g., 'DSK Dynamic Guitars.instruments'/,
'DSK Saxophones.instruments'/, 'DSK The Grand.instruments'/, etc.

There's also a Bitsonic directory, with Keyzone Classic.dll',
'Keyzone Classic.instruments'/ unins000.dat unins000.exe

I have no idea what the .exe in there is, except that if I remove it, my
Steinway [Grand] Piano doesn't work, and that's an awesome sounding
grand piano. I know it's a grand piano, even though it's not labelled as
such, because of its inharmonics (aka overtones). Even though it's been
37 years since I've played a real grand piano, my ears still know the
difference. And my virus scanner doesn't have anything against it, so
it's staying.

Most of the instruments I use are from DSK, e.g., "DSK SaxaphoneZ",
"DSK Saxaphones", and "DSK Brass" (which, for some reason, seems to
think that saxes are brass instruments ... WRONG). :-)

I don't quite understand, but I think you're saying you don't think any of the other instrument folders are interfering with where the VST is looking.

Also, quick useful note: Windows EMET (on by-default) is excellent at killing off malicious scripts- and it doesn't do so on the basis of 'good' or 'bad', it kills them off without exception if they go against a set of rules, whether or not the script is placed by Windoez itself or external. Usually, it's more than enough to keep you safe. Here's an explanatory link: https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/win ... guide.html

No Instruments Found shown in VeSTige after I tried to load the DLL.
Do you get the sonatina UI shown? -The one with the Big Cat Instrument Header?
You can see it as my video start
Does that open?
What have you chosen for embedding in Settings?

Nope. As I said before, the only thing I get is "No Instruments Loaded"
in VeSTige.

I'll have to check and see if I have chosen something....
Ok, it's set to "Embed with native win32 API" ... only other choices are
QT API or none.

Try both other options, and do a restart between each try
QT plugin locked up lmms, requirijng a kill. No embedding screwed up the GUI (instruments GUI no longer attached to LMMS GUI), but did nothing to change the loading (or rather, the failure thereof) of MSE files.

Im running out of ideas.
It seams that there is something wrong with your win10 setup, it could be rights or paths, perhaps you are missing something.. idk
As you can see in the video, i can load and play sonatina.dll, and the sonatina-VST can load the instrument-MSE-files, and lmms creates output.
That is profe-of-concept:
sonatina-VST does work in lmms 1.2.2
But not in yours.
My conclusion is that your setup is flawed
How it is flawed, i do not know.
If i could go in on your pc, and investigate, then perhaps i could figure something out, but that is definitively not certain !
Perhaps you should try and do a windows repair, but on the other hand -VST in general does work, so the issue is really only sonatina, and its MSE files.
Find an other VST.
Thanks. I'm out of ideas, too. I'll just have to try the MSe files (never know, some might work that I haven't tried) and either keep or rm them, and use the real VSTs. I can't think of anything less.
