Stuck on startup

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.

I do wonder.. Could you do a search for a file for me..
This is kind of a longshot, because you should not have that file -yet, but
In your :
'Documents and Settings'
Do you have a file
.lmmsrc.xml
Observe the dot.
Use the search-tool, to look for this file.
IF you find it, something is quite wrong.. But then i have a new take on it..

It is weird.. Are your XP a full 'real' one, or ... 'something' else ?
<chuckles> Why I am the one with this problem?

Yes so I did a search for ".lmmsrc.xml" After a "CLEAN" uninstallation. And after the installation. Didn't find it. I searched the whole computer just in case.

Are you underestimating my computer skills??? Grrrr :x hahah.. OF COURSE I turn off the computer completely. I'm starting to wonder if it's a driver issue though not sound driver as It's already up to date, I checked.

:P good! But what is the issue. I kind of hoped that the dot file was there, because then there was an entry-point for this. Damn..
Driver.. mmm ya, but then i think other programs would have acted up as well..
What Servicepack, do you have. SP2 is minimum, but... Nooo.. right?
A vanilla xp is not really likely in our days :p
(I know that both sp2 and sp3 runs lmms, but several vst's need sp3)
If only some kind of info was shown with the hang..
Do you run ICQ or messenger pr default. Some has reported that lmms crash with ICQ (weird) -If you had a running messenger as from Start, then.. ?
But im grasping for straws

----------
i got an idea. Perhaps it is possible to make lmms believe that it already is installed and running properly
To do that i will fake the setup-file.
You need a real code-editor in order to save this code as proper xml! Iow. a texteditor or notepad will not work!
Here is the code

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE lmms-config-file>
<lmms version="1.1.3">
  <app nomsgaftersetup="0" displaydbv="0" nommpz="1" configured="1"/>
  <audioportaudio backend="MME" device="Microsoft Sound Mapper - Input"/>
  <audiosdl device=""/>
  <mixer framesperaudiobuffer="6400" hqaudio="1" audiodev="SDL (Simple DirectMedia Layer)" mididev="WinMM MIDI"/>
  <recentfiles>
  </recentfiles>
</lmms>
Copy this exactly as it is written here inside the code-box, and paste it into an empty file in a proper code-editor!
Save the file as

.lmmsrc.xml

The dot infront MUST be there!
Insert the file in
C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR user acount-name>

Then try to start lmms..

Oh thats great! Happy for you. It could indicate that there are limited rights for lmms to write diskfiles, at least in 'Documents & settings'
Did you by chance install as a user with limited rights?
I hope you will be able to save normal project-files.
Perhaps the shortcut can show the given rights, on the 'Advanced' tab. Hope all works :)

Thanks Brandy :)

No no, I'm definitely the admin, full rights.

It works now at least without any issues! (:
Super :) Looking fwd to your tracks!
