I can't open the file I need in lmms

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
My operating system is Linux mint if that helps

I need to download a YouTube video open it in lmms and do a remix of it for a school project but I can't find out how to. If there is no away to do it on my operating system there is a Windows computer out in the living room I could use.
You can not open videos in LMMS since it is a music sequencer and not a video editing software. If by that you meant that you wanted to edit the sound of that video you could just extract the audio from the youtube video and open it in lmms, that's all.

How do I extract the sound from YouTube. It's funny I can make websites and do other things long coding but not this lol
You could record the Youtube vids audio, with Audacity. Then convert it into an ogg. file.
Note: Lmms reads ogg. and wav. files.
I suggest ogg. files, because they have a smaller file size and take up less disk space. :)

Or:
Download the vid, then convert it into an audio file, using one of those free video converters on the web.
Here's a nice one I use. And it looks cool too. http://www.mirovideoconverter.com/
Enjoy! 8-)
It's probably easier just to use one of the many online services that will download just the audio for you like http://www.youtube-mp3.org/

You'll still need another step to get the audio in a format LMMS can read. There are loads of things that will convert MP3 to ogg. Online I've used media.io and https://convertio.co/mp3-ogg/ but I would normally (in Windows) just run it through VLC media player.

I hope you do not expect that you will have an editable midi-file? There are no existing programs at all for that.

Besides that Welcome to the forum Octobertroy! For you all important links:

If you as you said are a coder, you are most welcome to participate on the project:

We need all the help we can get :)
Which video converter has the largest number of formats? My job is to convert videos to various formats for clients. There are about 8 formats available in most free programs. I was given a technical specification, and for the testing team it is necessary to convert the video into 12 formats. They need different video versions for application tests.

Have you tried to google your problem first :)?

I'd search for a MIDI version of that track, download it and import into LMMS. Provided it's legal to use it in terms of copyright (like it's public domain, or you have the owner's permission etc.)
I looked at different ratings and tops, comparing programs for about 2 hours or a little more. As a result, Movavi Video Converter 24 formats for converting in the free online version, in the top 1. In second place is avs, 18 formats for conversion in the free online version. All other programs that I tested and sites with an online video converter allow you to convert to 12 formats. There are 400+ formats available for conversion in the paid versions of the programs. But in the free version, it seems to me that 24 formats for video conversion will be enough.
