Custom Piano Roll

Anything that doesn't fit into other topics goes here!
Hi everyone! I'm a long-time fan of LMMS and a first-time poster. i don't know if this should go here but I couldn't find anywhere else so here goes:

Does anyone know a way to create an instrument so that when you edit a melody on piano roll, each key can be a different sound rather than a modulation of a sample? I've heard that this is possible with certain VSTs and ZynAddSubFx, but I haven't been able to figure it out.

I'm not good at coding but I'm guessing this is something that may need to be accomplished on a that level.

Any tips or ideas?
That is normally done simply by using a sampler VST like TX16Wx or Grace. You can load a different sample on every key. That is typically how drum sounds are created.

But finding a sampler that works in LMMS on whatever operating system you're using may not be easy.

Welcome to the forum Houdini Trix! First, For you, all important links:

And a few rules for posting and using the right sub-forum :)

I have heard good review on Grace, but never tried it, what would be a good sampler imo would be one that allow you to load one sample and the sampler will then distribute that sample over a pre-determined number of keys, but in corrected pitch!
That exists as hw, but i have never heard of a soft sampler with that feature.

If I understand you both Grace (https://www.onesmallclue.com/plugin/grace/) and TX16Wx (http://tx16wx.blogspot.co.uk/) will easily do that. You can have a number of "regions" across the keyboard and each region can have a single sample which plays at correct pitch for each key within the region.

Unfortunately I haven't had much luck getting either of them to work properly in LMMS. But I haven't really tried very hard (I don't use samples very much).

That is interesting! Thx!
